Overview

Tecolote Research is actively seeking to fill an available Data Scientist position supporting the U.S. Space Force. The Data Scientist will support (assist in?) collecting data, conducting, building visualizations and metrics and offering insights into opportunities to streamline or enhance key business processes.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with subject matter experts from a diverse cross-section of Space Systems Command's (SSC) business operations (acquisition, logistics, auditing, etc.)
  • Responsible for collecting data, conducting analysis, building visualizations and metrics and offering insights into opportunities to streamline or enhance key business processes, this may include process automation and opportunities to improve automation
  • Translate business needs into technical requirements
  • Iterate with customers in an agile manner to ensure satisfaction
  • Develop and maintain data pipelines
  • Generate analyses and visualizations for ad hoc data requests
  • Build dashboards to provide insights for recurring analytics needs
  • Train and deploy models to forecast events (time series) or predict outcomes (machine learning)
  • Leverage Large Language Models (LLM) or other Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) capabilities to solve business problems




Skills Required


Must Have:
  • Minimum of 5 years professional experience in analytical roles
  • Ability to work on-site in El Segundo, CA
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Experience with visualization tools
  • An eye for effective data visualization and dashboard design
  • US citizenship
  • Bachelor's degree in data science, math, engineering, economics, or the sciences
  • Ability to obtain a Secret clearance



Nice to Have:
  • Active Secret clearance
  • Advanced degree
  • Experience with and ability to improve processes towards FIAR compliance
  • A working knowledge of the AI landscape (supervised/unsupervised learning, reinforcement learning, deep learning, GenAI, prompt engineering, etc.)
  • Experience with the use of LLMs in a business setting
  • Familiarity with the government acquisition lifecycle
  • Familiarity with government auditing protocols and processes
  • Relevant professional certifications
  • Continuing education in Data Science/Analytics/Artificial Intelligence



Salary range: $75,000 - $90,000 DOE




Education

Bachelor's degree required, preferably in math, engineering, business, or the sciences.
