Astrion/MEIS is seeking a Systems Engineer to join our Civilian Space division. MEIS (a wholly owned Astrion subsidiary) supports NASA Ames Research Center via the Project and Engineering Support Services Contract (PESS II). MEIS provides systems engineering and technical support for the Volatiles Investigating Polar Exploration Rover (VIPER) mission. The VIPER mission is a robotic rover carrying a suite of instruments to explore the Moon's South Pole searching for water ice and other resources.
Astrion/MEIS is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer with knowledge and expertise in lunar rovers, robotics and mission operations. The SE will perform various system engineering activities including requirements development, requirement verification & validations, managing Interface Control Documents, tracking measures of performance, risk management, developing documentation, and implementing reviews.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS:
- 5-10 years working experience as a Systems Engineering
- BEng or BS degree in a technical field or similar u nderstanding of NASA procedural and Ames Procedural requirements (NPR's and APR's) specific to Systems Engineering
- In-depth familiarity with systems engineering
- Experience as a technical lead with system-level responsibilities.
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong problem solving and communication skills
- Ability to present information clearly to a diverse audience of managers, scientists, schedulers and a diverse array of engineering disciplines
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Technical leadership
- Lead systems engineering part of lander-rover interface across mechanical, electrical, thermal, and data domains
- Represent Mission Systems Engineering in the VIPER-MK1 Working Group
- Own and manage lander requirements tied to the VIPER delivery contract
- Requirements management (develop, allocate, track implementation, control changes, interface success criteria )
- Interface management (define, document, control), including boundaries, assumptions, and constraints
- Assess mass, center-of-gravity, and load path implications with support from Subject Matter Experts
- Lead and support trade studies, providing risk-informed decision support
- Requirements verification and validation
- Concept of operations traceability to system requirements and mission operation plans and procedures
- Establishing technical processes, procedures and templates
- Tracking Key Performance Parameters (metrics) definition
- Review contractor deliverable for requirements verification
- Support test planning and execution, including review of test data and analyses
- Configuration Management
- Fault Management including development of fault trees and supporting analyses
- Supports development of Mission Operations product to resolve faults
- Risk identification, tracking and mitigation strategies
- Project schedule development and maintenance
Ideal Candidate:
- Demonstrated experience with robotics
- Familiarity with Atlassian Confluence and JIRA
- Experience and background in robotics system and interfaces
- Knowledge and understanding of lunar rovers and the lunar environment
- Ideal candidate would have experience working on NASA flight missions
- Experience with Mission Operations a benefit
