Northrop Grumman, Space Systems, is seeking a Principal Software Engineer or Sr. Principal Software Engineer to join our Design & Analysis (D&A) Methods and Processes team. This team drives innovative advancements in engineering by developing cutting-edge methodologies, applying artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning techniques, and creating tailored in-house software solutions to enable and optimize complex engineering workflows related to the design and analysis of Solid Rocket Motors. This is an on-site position at our facility located in Promontory, UT. We are excited for you to join our team of qualified and diverse professionals, where your work will directly contribute to the latest innovations shaping the aerospace and defense industry.
This position will work a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off.

Primary Level Salary Range: $98,400.00 - $147,600.00
Secondary Level Salary Range: $122,800.00 - $184,200.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.

- Develop AI-driven tools and algorithms to automate repetitive engineering tasks, enhance workflow efficiency, and solve complex problems in rocket motor design and analysis.
- Design, implement, and maintain modeling and simulation software to support advanced engineering analysis.
- Ensure high-quality software development and deployment practices, including testing, documentation, and troubleshooting, to deliver robust tools that meet user needs.
- Collaborate with engineers and subject matter experts to translate technical needs into functional software tools and AI capabilities.
- Document software functionality, processes, and methodologies to ensure effective knowledge sharing and tool usability across teams.
- Provide technical support and guidance to end-users, ensuring tools are properly integrated into their workflows.
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by assessing current software and practices, recommending upgrades, and pushing for efficiency in engineering processes.

Basic Qualifications for Level 3:
- Bachelor's degree (STEM) with 5 years of professional experience - OR - Master's degree with 3 years of professional experience - OR - PhD with 1 year of professional experience.
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance
- Foundational understanding of artificial intelligence (AI) concepts, machine learning techniques, and their applications.
- Proficiency in either Python or C++.
- Familiarity with engineering analysis tools or workflows, gained through coursework, internships, or hands-on projects.
Basic Qualifications for Level 4:
- Bachelor's degree (STEM) with 8 years of professional experience - OR - Master's degree with 6 years of professional experience - OR - PhD with 4 years of professional experience.
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance
- Extensive experience designing and implementing AI and machine learning solutions, particularly for engineering applications.
- Advanced programming skills and ability to architect complex computational platforms or tools that incorporate AI.
- Demonstrated ability to lead the development of engineering software tools.
- Comprehensive understanding of engineering workflows, data flow optimization, and software development lifecycles.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proven industry experience integrating AI-driven technologies with engineering workflows.
- Strong background in identifying workflow inefficiencies and implementing software tools to streamline processes.
- Familiarity with multidisciplinary workflows, including data-driven engineering analysis and optimization.
- Experience supporting internal tool development in highly technical industries (e.g., aerospace, defense, energy).
- Demonstrated ability to lead or collaborate on AI/engineering software projects involving diverse stakeholders.
