Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Sector is searching for a VMS Software Chief Engineer to join the Engineering Products team within Strategy Integration and Operations. The location for this opportunity is Rancho Bernardo, CA and will be primarily based within our office spaces to support the program and business needs. Operating on our 9/80 schedule, meaning you will get every other Friday off. The position MAY have Hybrid work available, nothing guaranteed.
You will join the staff of Chief Engineers and Program Engineering Managers that support program execution of ongoing common vehicle systems development activities including software development, testing, integration and sustainment.
The Software Chief Engineer leads and coordinates engineering resources for technical management of Tactical VMS, CoreVMS, and Common Avionics Design software. The Software Chief Engineer guides a team that defines the performance requirements, design, qualification, test, and production of associated software. The Software Chief Engineer leads the development and execution of technical reviews and resolution of significant technical issues. The Software Chief Engineer teams with product leads to achieving efficient, effective, and innovative Engineering solutions. The Software Chief Engineer also coordinates activities with programs, providing assistance and guidance, and ensuring common products are suited and developed consistently with their needs.
The ideal candidate will have broad knowledge regarding vehicle management systems and flight critical software development while working in a fast-paced development program. The candidate must also be comfortable with coordinating with Customer program technical leads and chief engineers. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams in resolving complex problems are essential.

Primary Level Salary Range: $192,800.00 - $289,200.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.

Job Responsibilities:
- This position reports to the Engineering Products Chief Engineer and supports the Program Manager.
- Directs all phases of programs from inception through completion.
- Support Program Management team with broad VMS software experience and down-and-in technical guidance to support product development and delivery teams.
- Maintain working relationships with the Customers, providing timely communication and engagement to resolve technical questions posed by the Customers.
- Manage a large team of VMS software engineers and testers (14-16 and growing).
- Manage task assignments across multiple efforts including NCTA, Engineering, and Customer Support efforts.
- Manage Software Releases per stated IMS goals and milestones.
- Guide to common software architecture-level decisions, including when to adopt customer source code structure and features to better align with customer need.
Basic Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with at least 14 years' experience, OR a Master Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with at least 12 years' experience, or a PHD in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with at least 10 years' experience.
- Ability to Travel Occasionally (6-8 trips/year).
- Candidate must have a minimum of 7 years of directly related experience in project management.
- Direct internal as well as external customer interface experience.
- Ability to work under limited supervision and complete projects on time and on budget.
- Your ability to obtain and/or transfer and maintain the final adjudicated government Secret clearance, and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company.
