Basic Requirement for: Nurse (Clinical)
Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.
Active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Two full years of progressively higher level graduate education or a master's or equivalent degree from a professional nursing program.

Help
- Provides comprehensive nursing care to clinic patients utilizing evidence-based approach and application of clinical practice guidelines.
- Independently performs direct nursing care to clinic patients via telemedicine, virtual, and face-to-face care to include triage, procedures, nurse-managed protocols, and medication management.
- Assists clinician with examinations, treatments, diagnostic procedures, and coordination of patient needs. Tracks lab, radiology, and referral results and tracks at-risk patients by following the plan of care and assisting in making appointments.
- Initiates and maintains medical history, records observations and symptoms for clinician. Observes and records vital signs and orders laboratory procedures that may be required.
- Initiates emergency care and assembles, operates, and monitors specialized equipment such as Electrocardiogram (ECG) machine, Nebulizer Spirometry, Pulse Oximeter machine, suction equipment and any equipment used in the delivery of patient care.
- Ensures administrative requirements related to patient's visit are completed timely and correctly.
- Assists in counseling and educating patients to include, but not limited to: diet, prenatal and postpartum care, personal hygiene, acute or chronic illness, wellness/preventive health measures, normal development, family planning, and immunizations.

- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- All applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random drug testing, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- One year trial/probationary period may be required.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- This position has mandatory seasonal Influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal Influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
- This position requires the incumbent to have Tuberculosis testing.
- This position requires the incumbent to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
- Moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 pounds may be required.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- Must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. Must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, or territories the US.
- Employees whose primary clinical responsibilities are caring for pediatric patients in clinics, inpatient units, and critical care and specialty areas (emergency room, neonatal intensive care, and pediatric intensive care) must be trained in PALS.
- In accordance with BUMEDINST 1500.15F employees assigned to or subject to being assigned to duties providing direct patient care, either diagnostic or therapeutic must possess and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Personnel involved in the delivery of health and mental health care to children on a regular and recurring basis must receive a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) fingerprint check and State Criminal History Repository (SCHR) checks.

- Degree: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.).
- Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and you must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination.
- Foreign Degree: A degree from a Foreign Nursing School. Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
- Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Applicants claiming this exemption must meet the requirement below. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.
