Job Summary
KBR is seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer to support advanced engineering and manufacturing efforts at our Las Cruces, NM location. This role will lead the design, development, integration, and validation of mechanical systems for ground-based mobile satellite communication systems, antenna manufacturing, and radio frequency engineering programs. The selected candidate will guide engineering teams, conduct high-level analyses, and drive complex mechanical solutions from concept through deployment. This position requires regular interaction with cross-disciplinary engineering, manufacturing, program management, suppliers, and customers to ensure technical excellence and mission success. The Staff Mechanical Engineer will also provide mentorship, technical oversight, and leadership in design reviews, evaluations, and continuous process improvement.
Roles and Responsibilities
• Lead the research, design, modification, development, and evaluation of mechanical components, assemblies, and systems supporting satellite communications, directed energy, and RF-related projects.
• Perform advanced analyses including stress/strain evaluations, thermal management assessments, materials selection, system performance evaluations, and failure investigations.
• Direct and oversee validation activities, including developing test plans, defining qualification requirements, reviewing test results, and ensuring compliance with engineering standards.
• Serve as a technical lead for complex projects by developing schedules, establishing technical baselines, managing engineering scope, and guiding teams toward timely and cost-effective completion.
• Provide technical oversight and mentorship to junior engineers and drafting personnel, including review of engineering documentation, modeling practices, and system integration methods.
• Coordinate with internal stakeholders, customers, vendors, subcontractors, and manufacturing teams to resolve technical issues and ensure design intent is achieved.
• Lead and participate in design reviews, risk assessments, configuration evaluations, and system readiness activities throughout all phases of the engineering lifecycle.
• Prepare and review engineering documentation including detailed drawings, specifications, procedures, analyses, change packages, and test reports.
• Ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, industry standards, and AS9100 quality requirements.
• Must hold a valid driver's license
• Other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related discipline from an ABET-accredited institution.
• Minimum 2 years of relevant mechanical engineering experience in design and manufacturing.
• Demonstrated experience leading engineering projects involving complex mechanical systems.
• Must be a U.S. citizen with valid documentation
Preferred Qualifications
• Active U.S. Top Secret security clearance
• Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or closely related field
• Experience with advanced Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
• Experience supporting or collaborating with manufacturing teams, including design-for-manufacturability considerations, production troubleshooting, or factory integration activities.
• Experience using Microsoft Project for developing schedules, managing engineering activities, and supporting program planning.
