Job Summary
The Staff Systems Engineer leads the development, integration, and validation of complex systems to ensure they meet functional, performance, and mission requirements within defined constraints such as mass, cost, and schedule. This role executes system-level analyses, develops subsystem interfaces, and ensures cohesive operation across all integrated components. The Staff Systems Engineer provides technical direction, collaborates closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, and serves as a key interface with customers, contractors, and internal stakeholders. They support engineering planning, design efforts, system upgrades, and continuous improvement initiatives across the full lifecycle of the system. This position also mentors junior engineers and contributes to technical proposals, reports, and organizational decision-making.
Roles and Responsibilities
• Lead system architecture development, requirements definition, and allocation across subsystems to ensure compliance with mission and performance expectations.
• Perform functional, performance, and interface analyses to support design decisions and guide subsystem development teams.
• Oversee and coordinate the integration, testing, validation, and verification of systems and subsystems throughout the engineering lifecycle.
• Develop and maintain system-level documentation including specifications, interface control documents (ICDs), analyses, and technical reports.
• Serve as the primary technical liaison between customers, contractors, and internal teams, providing guidance on technical requirements, system performance, and design constraints.
• Direct or contribute to research studies aimed at improving system performance, reconfiguring subsystems, or reducing cost, schedule, or technical risks.
• Support the creation of project plans, cost estimates, schedules, and engineering proposals.
• Provide technical leadership to lower-level engineers and contribute to organizational problem-solving and technical decision-making.
• Participate in multi-disciplinary design reviews, risk assessments, and configuration management activities.
Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field from an ABET accredited institution.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in systems engineering, system integration, or related engineering disciplines.
• Must have an active Top-Secret security clearance.
• Demonstrated experience performing system-level functional analysis, requirements development, or interface definition.
Preferred Qualifications
• Master's degree in Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams or overseeing major subsystem or system integration activities.
• Familiarity with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools, simulation environments, or systems analysis software.
• Experience supporting or collaborating with manufacturing teams, including design-for-manufacturability considerations, production troubleshooting, or factory integration activities.
• Experience using Microsoft Project for developing schedules, managing engineering activities, and supporting program planning.
