FWI is building a team to provide business management support services and data analytics for the Defense Health Agency's Armed Services Blood Program Division (ASBPD). As a Senior Transfusion Medicine Specialist, you will provide specialized clinical laboratory and transfusion medicine expertise to assess international blood product comparability and ensure blood supplies meet U.S. safety and quality standards for military service members.

Work Schedule and Location:

On-Site: This full-time on-site position will work Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm at the Defense Health Headquarters in Falls Church, VA

Responsibilities

  • Conduct foreign nation blood comparability assessments and prepare country comparability reports per ASBP guidance
  • Determine comparability of foreign nations' blood supplies to U.S. standards
  • Maintain current understanding of international blood regulations and assess quality/safety of blood systems in designated countries
  • Provide recommendations regarding acceptance or rejection of blood products sourced from foreign nations
  • Track foreign blood regulations and comparability assessments; conduct regular reviews of international standards
  • Prepare quarterly Country Blood Comparability Reports and presentations summarizing key findings for ASBP leadership
  • Collaborate with ASBP subject matter experts, DoD, and international partners on blood safety
  • Participate in international conferences and working groups related to blood safety and comparability
  • Support the Walking Blood Bank (WBB) program, including donor screening procedures, training development, and quality control
  • Support expeditionary blood program planning and implementation
  • Travel may be required both CONUS and OCONUS


Qualifications

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Biology, Medical Technology, Chemistry, Hematology, or a related scientific field; OR 3+ years of experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist in lieu of a degree
  • 3+ years of clinical laboratory experience with a focus on transfusion medicine or blood banking
  • 3+ years of experience working in a DoD military or civilian healthcare environment
  • Expertise in blood typing, crossmatching, and blood product compatibility testing
  • Knowledge of international blood banking practices and the ability to assess how foreign standards compare to U.S. requirements
  • Experience evaluating blood supply chains, including collection, processing, storage, and distribution operations
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare technical reports and present findings to leadership
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance


Desired:
  • Familiarity with the Armed Services Blood Program (ASBP), AABB standards, or FDA blood regulations
  • Experience conducting country-level blood comparability assessments or international regulatory reviews
  • Experience with Walking Blood Bank (WBB) programs or expeditionary blood operations
  • Prior experience working at or supporting the Defense Health Agency (DHA)
