Position Summary
The Software Engineer/Software Developer supports United States Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) programs by designing, developing, integrating, testing, and maintaining software solutions in a secure, mission-focused environment. This position participates in the full Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) with emphasis on software engineering, collaborating with cross-functional Agile teams and demonstrating progress to stakeholders and customers.
Essential Functions / Duties & Responsibilities
• Perform software engineering tasks across the SDLC including requirements analysis, design, development, integration, testing, deployment support, and sustainment.
• Develop and maintain full-stack applications with emphasis on Java-based solutions.
• Collaborate with software designers/engineers to plan, design, and implement software systems.
• Apply Agile principles to deliver incremental capability and maintain schedule commitments.
• Provide regular demonstrations of working software and communicate status/progress to customers and stakeholders.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues; propose innovative solutions to meet performance and mission needs.
• Implement and support automated testing practices (unit, integration) and related tooling (e.g., QFTest).
• Work effectively in Linux and Windows environments; interface with relational databases (Oracle/PDBs) using SQL.
• Follow configuration management practices and support team processes for code review, documentation, and quality.
Required Qualifications
• Full Stack Software Development experience.
• Demonstrated experience with Java development.
• Proven experience supporting applications on Linux and Windows operating systems.
• Familiarity with relational databases (Oracle/PDBs) and SQL.
• Working knowledge of Agile development processes.
• Familiarity with test automation practices and tools (unit testing, integration testing, QFTest).
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to collaborate effectively with small technical teams and stakeholders.
• Ability to prioritize and adjust tasks to achieve project results.
• Ability to work full-time on-site at Offutt AFB, NE and maintain required access.
• Active U.S. DoD Secret security clearance required at time of hire.
• Ability to obtain/maintain U.S. DoD Top Secret clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in an Agile software development environment.
• Experience with enterprise database environments.
• DevOps/DevSecOps experience.
• CI/CD experience, including Jenkins pipeline/build setup.
• Experience with software quality/security tools such as SonarQube.
• Experience using IDEs and configuration management/source control tools (e.g., SVN, Bitbucket).
Education / Experience (Meets One)
• High School Diploma + 6+ years software development experience, or
• Bachelor of Science in a STEM field + 2+ years software development experience, or
• Master of Science in a STEM field + 0+ years software development experience.
Working Conditions
• Work is performed primarily on-site in a secure government environment at Offutt AFB.
• Candidate must comply with all security, access, and onsite requirements.
• Standard office/secure lab environment; may require extended periods of sitting and working at a computer.
