Jr. Data Engineer

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Junior Data Engineer to support a company focused on modernizing critical data systems for the Department of Transportation. This position is hybrid in Washington, D.C. with on-site work 2 days/week. The Junior Data Engineer will assist in migrating legacy Informatica ETL processes into Databricks using PySpark and Spark SQL.

Responsibilities for the Junior Data Engineer include:

• Analyze legacy Informatica workflows to understand source-to-target logic, transformations, and dependencies
• Convert Informatica mappings into Databricks pipelines using PySpark and Spark SQL
• Support data ingestion into medallion architecture (landing → bronze → silver)
• Validate data through row-count checks, aggregates, and business rule verification
• Document migration logic and collaborate with senior engineers, architects, and QA teams

Required Qualifications for the Junior Data Engineer include:

• 2-3 years of experience in data engineering, ETL development, or data integration
• Hands-on experience with Informatica PowerCenter (mappings, workflows, common transformations)
• Experience with Databricks, PySpark, Spark SQL, and SQL fundamentals (joins, aggregations, windowing)
• Strong understanding of ETL/ELT concepts, data warehousing, and batch processing
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• Must be a US Citizen able to obtain a DOT Public Trust clearance

Compensation for the Junior Data Engineer includes:

• Salary Range: $70,000-90,000 **depending on experience**
