Engineering - Electrical
Wilmington, MA (On-Site/Office)
OUR PROJECT
The Senior Optical Engineer will provide technical leadership across advanced aerospace imaging and illumination programs spanning the UV through LWIR spectral regions. This individual will generate mission-specific optical designs, conduct detailed performance analyses (imaging, wavefront error, stray light, throughput, radiometry), and develop comprehensive error budgets to support system verification and operational performance. The role requires active participation in design reviews, system trade studies, vendor assessments, and lab-based experimentation.
This is a long-term contract that will require being onsite at the Wilmington, MA facility with a 9/80 schedule.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for a Senior Optical Engineer who is technically rigorous, and a hands-on leader that thrives in a fast-paced aerospace environment. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in optical system architecture and performance analysis, along with the ability to manage multiple programs with competing priorities. You are comfortable operating as both a technical authority and collaborative team member—mentoring engineers, engaging customers, contributing to new business pursuits, and ensuring that complex optical systems meet demanding mission requirements.
We are interviewing qualified candidates immediately and will move into the offer stage quickly. If you are interested, please apply with an updated resume.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience in space telescope or remote sensing optical design, with hands-on optical alignment, interferometry, testing, and measurement analysis.
• Senior Level experience using Zemax and/or Code V for optical design and analysis, including both sequential (CODE V/ZEMAX) and non-sequential (FRED) tools.
• Strong background in geometrical optics, diffraction theory, imaging lens design, radiometry/photometry, optical tolerancing, and performance modeling.
• Active DoD Secret Clearance is required.
Effective written and verbal communication skills are absolutely required for this role. You must be able to work LEGALLY in the United States as NO SPONSORSHIP will be provided. NO 3rd PARTIES.
