Job Overview
The Sr. Component Engineer is responsible for providing leadership in the selection, qualification, integration, and lifecycle management of electronic, mechanical, and electromechanical components used in product designs. The role involves working closely with design engineers, suppliers, and
procurement teams to ensure that components meet technical specifications, are cost-effective, and are available throughout the product's lifecycle. The Component Engineer also plays a key role in risk mitigation, obsolescence management, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and industry standards.
Essential Functions
• Lead design and development teams to recommend and select components based on performance, cost, availability, and reliability.
• Validate and qualify new components, ensuring they meet all technical and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain master part records and attributes within the enterprise resource planning environment.
• Maintain and update approved components lists (ACL) and preferred vendor lists (AVL).
• Work with suppliers and manufacturers to understand component availability, lead times, and lifecycle information.
• Manage relationships with component suppliers to ensure high-quality, on-time delivery and support for technical issues.
• Evaluate and qualify new vendors and suppliers as necessary.
• Monitor the lifecycle status of components and proactively address potential obsolescence issues.
• Develop strategies for alternative sourcing or design modifications in case of component discontinuation.
• Maintain and track component end-of-life (EOL) notifications and implement suitable replacements.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising product quality and reliability.
• Evaluate and implement lower-cost alternatives that meet or exceed performance requirements.
• Ensure that selected components comply with relevant industry standards (e.g., RoHS, REACH, IPC).
• Stay updated with evolving environmental and safety regulations and ensure component compliance.
• Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting support to design engineers regarding component-related issues.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on product designs to optimize component selection and placement.
• Maintain accurate documentation of all components, including specifications, testing results, and supplier information.
• Generate reports on component performance, costs, lifecycle status, and other relevant metrics.
• Provide mentorship to junior level members of the team.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Competencies
• Excellent understanding of electronic, mechanical, and electromechanical components.
• Strong knowledge of industry standards and regulatory requirements (RoHS, REACH, etc.).
• Strong experience using Silicon Expert.
• Strong familiarity with supply chain management practices.
• Strong knowledge of reliability testing methodologies for components.
• Familiarity with sourcing and procurement practices.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Strong attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
Education / Certifications
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.
• Master's Degree Preferred.
Experience
• 9+ years of experience in component engineering, procurement, or electronics/mechanical design.
• Strong experience with Silicon Expert.
• Strong experience developing component selection design guidelines.
• Experience with component lifecycle management tools.
• Experience with component selection tools, databases, and design software (e.g., PDM/PLM systems).
• Experience with LN ERP.
• Experience with obsolescence management and EOL planning.
