Software Technician

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Software Technician to support a company focused on advancing intelligent transportation systems, traffic operations, and next-generation mobility technology. This position is on-site in Mclean, VA. The Software Technician will analyze traffic performance, design operational improvements, and support simulation-based testing for transportation and autonomous systems. Responsibilities for the Software Technician include:

• Support civil engineering tasks across planning, design, construction, and maintenance
• Conduct field data collection including traffic counts, speed studies, signal evaluations, and lighting assessments
• Modify, test, calibrate, or troubleshoot ITS equipment, sensors, traffic counters, and related hardware
• Assist with preparing data, measurements, documentation, and site evaluations that support engineering workflows

Required Qualifications for the Software Technician include:

• 0-4 years of experience for Junior / 4-8 years of experience for Mid-Level roles
• Proficiency with Python in a Linux environment (C++ preferred)
• Experience collecting, structuring, and preparing data; supporting testing workflows
• Familiarity with equipment diagnostics, calibration, sensor validation, and ITS hardware setup or troubleshooting
• BS/BA in a relevant field or equivalent experience (see experience tiers)

Compensation for the Software Technician includes:

• Salary Range: $80,000-115,000 **Depending on experience**
