Markon is seeking an experienced System Security Engineer to join a large, collaborative team of developers, software engineers, and data engineers supporting mission-critical systems. This role focuses on secure system design, cloud integration, accreditation support, and lifecycle security engineering in a fast-paced Agile environment.
The ideal candidate will bring strong cloud, security, and systems engineering experience, along with the ability to support accreditation efforts and provide high-level customer support.

Responsibilities
- Support system build-outs, testing, maintenance, monitoring, and ongoing enhancements
- Decompose requirements and ensure system designs align with enterprise architecture and allocated requirements
- Translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications through functional analysis, cost estimation, and interface definition studies
- Identify system integrity risks and implement solutions across the full system lifecycle (concept through disposal)
- Integrate systems and services and clearly communicate technical findings and recommendations
- Address user requirements and automate/improve existing systems to enhance workflow efficiency
- Support the development, documentation, and execution of system security policies
- Support Authorization to Operate (ATO) / accreditation efforts for customer systems and applications
- Conduct security analysis and maintain system and workflow documentation following updates or iteration changes
- Perform application demonstrations and end-user training as required
- Support release management activities, including deployment readiness, coordination, and release notes documentation
- Note: Occasional after-hours support (typically once per month, 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM) may be required
- Provide Tier 3 and Tier 4 support to internal teams and customers
Qualifications
- Active TS/SCI with Polygraph
- Bachelor's degree and 11-15 years of relevant experience
- Experience working in AWS cloud environments
- Experience with SQL
- Experience in Agile environments using Jira and Confluence (ServiceNow ESP experience preferred)
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform and/or AWS CloudFormation
- Experience working in DevSecOps environments
- Experience providing Linux system administration
- Familiarity with security accreditation processes and tools, including:
- RMF and NIST frameworks
- Accreditation tools (e.g., Xacta, GreenLight)
- System and vulnerability scanning
- POA&M tracking
Desired Qualifications
- Experience supporting IdAM / ICAM systems (Authentication, Authorization, Attribute Management)
- Experience with Entitlement Management and Digital Policy Management systems
- LDAP experience
- Security certifications (e.g., Security+, CISSP)
- AWS Certification
- Experience with BPM / BAW platforms
