Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Staff Aeronautical Design Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within ourVehicle Engineering organization. This role is located in Rancho Bernardo, CA.
In this role, you will need to thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, and collaborative/team settings across all levels. You will be responsible for collaborating across a multi-disciplinary team of engineers responsible for developing, modifying, and maintaining aircraft design configurations using current engineering practices and standards. Some responsibilities you can expect include conceptual design, preliminary / layout, and detail design, drawing release, design review presentations, and support to fabrication. You must be an experienced designer who can flourish in a dynamic work environment and excel in complex technical problems that require innovative solutions. Overall, you will support functional, sector, and program long range business goals and objectives, lead a project and task through to completion and mentor to support knowledge management through your excellent communication, writing, and presentation skills.

Primary Level Salary Range: $161,000.00 - $241,400.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, train and collaborate with team of engineers.
- Provide technical oversight and technical support to other disciplines as required.
- Responsible for cost and schedule associated to SOW.
- Lead internal program, customer and/or supplier technical exchange meetings and/or formal program milestone reviews to provide and/or obtain progress status updates.
- Interface with relevant stakeholders, including cross-functional teams, customers, and suppliers, to ensure robust and maintainable configurations are produced.
- Consults on design and integration of composite materials and their applications
- Leverages advanced knowledge of aircraft structure concepts including best practices for material selection of materials and metallic/composites trade analyses
- Capture best practices in designing various aircraft systems including composites and/or metallic and their associated requirements for composites and/or metallic structures.
- Perform design related tasks utilizing the NX, CATIA, Fibersim and Teamcenter tool suite.
- Integrate subsystems components and structural configurations into various types of aircraft applications.
- Perform GD&T activities associated with producing and manufacturing of designs.
- Ability to design for affordability leveraging Agile methodology.
- Lead proposal activity including evaluating and providing proposal technical inputs and cost estimation.
- Lead tasks and managing tasks/projects efforts to balance schedule, cost and quality.
Basic Qualifications:
- Must have a Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline AND at least 12 years of related professional or military experience in mechanical or aerospace engineering; OR a Master's degree in a STEM discipline AND at least 10 years of related professional or military experience in mechanical or aerospace engineering, OR a Ph.D. in a STEM discipline AND at least 8 years of related professional / military experience in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
- Must have experience with CATIA and Teamcenter PLM.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience designing aircraft primary and secondary structures.
- Experience with NX CAD software, and CPLM
- Experience with advanced manufacturing processes.
- Participation in multiple design and analysis cycles in aircraft development programs.
- Active DoD Secret clearance or higher.
