IT - QA and Test
Grand Prairie, TX (On-Site/Office)
Job Number 717800BR
Description:We are seeking a highly experienced Staff Electrical Engineer with deep expertise in designing and integrating Automated Test Equipment (ATE) for complex electrical systems, subsystems, and circuit card assemblies (CCAs). With 7 - 12 years of hands-on experience, you will lead the electrical design aspects of custom ATE solutions, interface with cross-functional teams (product design, manufacturing, software/test engineers), troubleshoot production issues, and drive improvements in test coverage, reliability, and efficiency. This role involves architecting robust, production-ready test solutions in high-reliability environments.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead the full-cycle electrical design of custom ATE systems, including schematics, PCB layouts, cable/interconnect drawings, fixture design ("bed of nails" or flying probe), signal conditioning circuits, switching matrices, and power distribution.
• Specify, select, and integrate commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) instrumentation (e.g., oscilloscopes, DMMs, power supplies, arbitrary waveform generators, spectrum analyzers, data acquisition modules) with custom hardware via standards like PXI, VXI, LXI, GPIB, or Ethernet-based.
• Perform detailed electrical analyses, including power/loads analysis, signal integrity, EMC/EMI considerations, thermal management, and fault tolerance to ensure reliable operation in production or field environments.
• Design and troubleshoot interfaces for unit-under-test (UUT) stimulation and measurement, including analog/digital/RF signals, high-voltage/high-current paths, and sensor/actuator integration.
• Collaborate with software/test development teams to ensure seamless integration of hardware with test executives (e.g., NI TestStand, Python scripts, LabVIEW).
• Support obsolescence management: Research and qualify replacement COTS parts/hardware, perform risk assessments, and implement mitigations for legacy ATE systems.
• Drive design reviews (peer, PDR/CDR), present technical solutions, and mentor junior engineers/technicians.
• Debug and resolve complex issues in production test setups, reducing downtime and false failures; may involve on-site support for manufacturing lines.
• Contribute to continuous improvement: Optimize test time, cost, coverage, and yield; incorporate DFM/DFT best practices.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., MIL-STD, IPC, safety/regulatory requirements) and company processes.
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• 7-12 years of professional experience in electrical design with a strong focus on Automated Test Equipment (ATE) or similar test system development.
• Proven track record designing custom electrical hardware for ATE, including signal conditioning, switching, fixturing, and COTS integration.
• Ability to obtain a security clearance.
Desired Skills:
• Familiarity with test automation software (e.g., LabVIEW, TestStand, Python/PyVISA, or C#/.NET).
• Prior experience designing ATE for Defense products.
• Familiarity with 1553 communication interfaces.
• Familiarity with custom FPGA test applications.
Security Clearance Statement: This position requires a government security clearance, you must be a US Citizen for consideration.
