Duties
Help
  • Serves as the initial point of contact for the installation's visitors which may include foreign nationals, government agents, elective officials, media and Very Important Persons (VIP).
  • Serves as a Shift Leader who is an assistant to the Guard Shift Supervisor.
  • Makes daily assignments to ensure that guard coverage is provided to assigned patrol areas.
  • Instructs employees in specific tasks and job techniques and provides on-the-job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures.
  • Operates and perform research queries on the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) workstation terminal(s) in accordance with (IAW) federal and state laws.
  • Serves as a member of the installation's overall security response capability during actual or simulated incidents.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles. Loss of license may result in removal from the position.
  • This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • This position requires certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • This position requires the employee to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the NCIC terminals.
  • Employee will be assessed under the Individual Reliability Program.
  • Must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
  • Employee must be able to perform as a member of the installation's overall security response capability.
  • Must wear the Department of the Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform IAW AR 190-56, maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene.
  • Must know first aid and act as a first responder in a medical emergency.
  • Incumbent will be required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual physical agility test (PAT).

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience GS-07: One year of specialized experience which includes: (1) Experience assisting shift supervisory with daily operations; (2) Controlling access of vehicles, visitors and pedestrians into a facility such as a military installation; (3) Using automated systems to query and verify suitability for visitor entry into a facility such as a military installation and (4) Dealing with difficult customers who may be found ineligible or access. Such experience must have provided a knowledge of protective systems and techniques. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06)
