Alutiiq Information Management, LLC a subsidiary of Alutiiq, LLC is seeking a motivated and talented Mechanical Engineer to join our team supporting the Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Pacific's RESTORE (Reverse Engineering, Science, and Technology for Obsolescence, Restoration, and Evaluation) laboratory. In this role, you will apply your foundational knowledge of mechanical, materials, or chemical engineering to support critical research, development, and reverse engineering of military Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Combat Systems, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (C5ISR) systems.

- Assist in the design, development, and testing of mechanical and electro-mechanical systems and components.
- Utilize Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) to create and modify 2D drawings and 3D models for parts and assemblies.
- Support reverse engineering efforts for obsolete components by using precision measurement tools, laser scanners, and coordinate measuring machines.
- Perform basic engineering analysis, including thermal (CFD) and structural (FEA) simulations, under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Contribute to the development of Technical Data Packages (TDP) and manufacturing instructions.
- Support the evaluation and testing of various materials-including polymers, metals, powders, and binding agents-for use in advanced manufacturing and prototyping.
- Assist in developing and executing material testing plans and analyzing results for corrosion prevention, failure analysis, and design optimization.
- Participate in the design and refinement of chemical post-processing and coating methods for prototypes.
- Prepare technical reports, document findings, and present data to the project team.
- Adhere to all safety, quality, and security protocols in laboratory and field environments.
Payrate: $95,000 to $115,000 Annually
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- B.S. degree from an accredited institution in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science/Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance as a condition of employment.
- Strong understanding of fundamental engineering principles.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior internship or co-op experience in a defense, aerospace, or manufacturing environment.
- At least four years of hands-on experience with CAD software such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD.
- Familiarity with Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) tools for Finite Element Analysis (FEA) or Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
- Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Experience with additive manufacturing (3D printing) technologies and materials.
- Familiarity with basic laboratory procedures and material testing equipment.
Work Environment & Travel
- Work is performed in a combination of office, laboratory, and industrial environments.
- Travel will be required to U.S. Defense ships and installations worldwide (both within the Continental United States and outside).
- The work may require accessing confined spaces and working at heights aboard naval vessels.
