OVERVIEW:
Provides professional support for designing, building, and explaining data-driven solutions that improve outcomes for Veterans and those who serve them. Partners with team members and stakeholders to analyze and evaluate data warehouse systems for efficient data storage and retrieval, ensuring data integrity and performance. Works with guidance to drive initiatives aligned with project goals while continuously expanding technical capabilities and expertise.
GENERAL DUTIES:
- Executes data management tasks by querying, wrangling, and joining data from analytical and transactional databases such as Oracle and MS SQL Server.
- Develops and maintains interactive data visualizations and dashboards, primarily using Power BI (or Tableau) to support client decision-making.
- Conducts summary data analysis to produce descriptive statistics; ensures data quality checks and basic compliance standards are met.
- Assists in the evaluation and enhancement of existing database systems by identifying bottlenecks and helping implement strategies like indexing to improve retrieval efficiency.
- Supports the refinement of data models to ensure infrastructure is prepared for future analytical workflows.
- Contributes to project workstreams and client deliverables, ensuring high-quality outcomes are completed on time and within scope.
- Demonstrates accountability by proactively identifying task-level opportunities and driving work forward with supervision.
- Upholds data privacy, security, and compliance standards across the analytics lifecycle.
- Collaborates effectively in team environments by offering support to colleagues while proactively seeking assistance when appropriate.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Degree in a quantitative field (e.g., statistics, economics, computer science, mathematics).
- 0-4 years of relevant experience (preference for U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs experience).
- Proficiency with Power BI (strongly preferred) or Tableau for business intelligence and data visualization.
- Ability to write queries against Oracle and MS SQL databases.
- Experience with scripting for data analysis using one or more of the following: Python, R, Stata, or Julia.
- Familiarity with data architecture and data security best practices.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate technical details to non-technical audiences.
- Strong written documentation habits for code and methodology.
- Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to build and sustain positive client relationships with a strong customer service orientation.
