Description:Role Overview
As an Experimental CNC Machinist, you will operate and maintain computer numerical control (CNC) machines to produce high-precision parts for experimental and developmental purposes. Your work directly supports innovation in spacecraft production and contributes to the success of Lockheed Martin Space's mission.
Key Duties / Responsibilities
• Machine, fabricate, and assemble parts according to prints and operation sheets.
• Interpret CAD data, drawings, and sketches to guide fabrication.
• Set up and operate horizontal and vertical CNC machines for drilling, milling, boring, tapping, and other operations.
• Verify NC code and adjust machine settings as needed.
• Perform secondary operations such as deburring and straightening during machine cycles.
• Inspect parts using gauges, micrometers, indicators, calipers, and other measuring tools to ensure specifications are met.
• Select and install cutting tools, zero machines, and make necessary setup adjustments.
• Provide feedback to Manufacturing Engineers on processes, fixturing, and tooling to optimize efficiency.
• Analyze machining results against targets and communicate production goals to the team.
• Maintain coolant levels and perform minor preventive maintenance on equipment.
• Support flexible scheduling, including overtime, weekends, and alternate shifts, as production requires.

• You will join a collaborative team focused on precision machining and innovation.
• Work is hands-on, fast-paced, and requires attention to detail.
• Shifts are structured to meet production schedules, including second shift hours.
• Some tasks involve handling tools, operating machinery, and standing for extended periods.

Basic Qualifications:
Candidates must meet all requirements listed:
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints accurately.
• Understanding of G-code and M-code programming for CNC machines.
• Willingness and ability to work varying shifts, including second shift (2:30 PM-12:00 AM) on a 9x80 schedule (every other Friday off).
• Eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance.
Desired Skills:
These are not required but strengthen your candidacy:
• Experience with Siemens 840D Control Systems (Celos).
• Experience with Mazatrol programming.
• Experience with Mastercam or NX software.
• Current Secret security clearance.
