Description:Role Overview
As an Experimental CNC Machinist, you will support the production and development of precision components used in advanced space systems. You will set up and operate computer numerical control (CNC) machines to fabricate, modify, and inspect parts to exact specifications.
This role supports experimental and developmental work, often requiring careful problem-solving, precision, and collaboration with Manufacturing Engineers. Your work directly contributes to the reliability and performance of next-generation space technologies.
Key Duties / Responsibilities
• Machine, fabricate, and assemble parts according to drawings and operation sheet specifications
• Interpret computer-aided design (CAD) data, prints, and sketches
• Set up and operate one or more CNC machining centers (horizontal and vertical)
• Perform drilling, milling, boring, tapping, and related machining operations
• Verify numerical control (NC) code during setup and execution
• Select and install appropriate cutting tools and complete machine zeroing and setup adjustments
• Perform secondary operations such as deburring and straightening during machine cycles
• Inspect parts during and after production using standard measurement tools, including micrometers, indicators, calipers, and depth gauges
• Maintain coolant levels and perform minor preventive maintenance on equipment
• Provide feedback to Manufacturing Engineers on processes, tooling, and fixturing to improve efficiency
• Review machining results against performance targets and communicate production goals during shift
• Troubleshoot machining challenges, including work-holding, material behavior, tooling, and machine settings
• Support statistical or other quality control procedures as required
Work Environment
This position is based in King of Prussia, PA within Lockheed Martin Space Production Operations.
You will work in a precision machining and developmental laboratory environment where accuracy and attention to detail are critical. The role requires operating CNC equipment and using precision measurement tools. The pace is production-driven, with collaboration between machinists and engineering teams to refine processes and meet schedule targets.
Flexibility is important, as production schedules may require overtime, alternate shifts, or weekend work.

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
• Working knowledge of G and M code
• Ability to work varying shifts, including second shift
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance
Work Schedule Requirement:
This role supports second shift (2:30 PM - 12:00 AM) on a 9x80 schedule (80 hours over nine workdays with every other Friday off). Flexibility for overtime, weekends, alternate shifts, and off-Fridays is required based on production needs.
Desired Skills:

• Experience with Siemens 840D Control Systems (Celos)
• Experience with Mazatrol
• Experience with Mastercam or NX
• Active Secret security clearance
