  • 1. Develops law enforcement programs and operating plans for the installation and is responsible for planning, supervising, and managing the operations of the division.
  • Plans for current and long-range operations based on workload trends and projected requirements.
  • Develops methods and procedures affecting overall operations and tasks subordinate supervisors.
  • Advises top-level installation managers on police department issues impacting them and develops acceptable solutions to problems.
  • Conducts civilian personnel management responsibilities. Initiates, recommends and/or approves personnel actions involving key managers and staff personnel.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This is a designated Mission Essential position.
  • One-year supervisory probationary period may be required.
  • This position is subject to the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.
  • Must comply with Drug Abuse Testing Program requirements.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • Must wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other associated equipment. Must pass physical agility test requirements.
  • Required to pass a pre-employment and periodic medical examination (physical, emotional and mental stability, etc.).
  • Must possess and maintain a valid stateside driver's license.
  • Incumbent required to wear prescribed uniform.
  • Incumbent may be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other associated equipment, and may be require to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants.
  • Incumbent must successfully complete CPR certification and First Aid.
  • Incumbent must successfully complete law enforcement training.
  • Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
  • Incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms.
  • Hours of work may fluctuate to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Overtime may be required. Incumbent is required to work overtime as directed and is subject to recall for emergency overtime.
  • Maintain minimum standards as outlined in AR 190-56 and/or local policy.
Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes which includes directing elements of law enforcement operations; supervising or critiquing the training of law enforcement personnel; providing guidance based on a broad range of knowledge of law enforcement laws and regulations; determining law enforcement resources based on operational need; analyzing the effectiveness of law enforcement response; planning patrol activities in accordance with specified threat activity; compiling detailed reports and presenting briefings to leadership.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
