Job Summary

The Technical Writer is a critical role within Technical Delivery & Engineering that is responsible for driving clear communication of complex technical concepts and solutions.

This position supports engineers and delivery teams by developing new documentation for contract deliverables and proposals. The Technical Writer's audience includes internal (WWT) and external customers and potential partners. This position also hones and refines existing documentation.

The Technical Writer will strive to attain a working knowledge and understanding of the solutions that WWT offers, allowing them to create articles, use-case studies, white papers, and other media as needed for publication on internal and external platforms.

The Technical Writer will embrace AI technologies as essential tools for driving standardization to reduce the amount of time required to produce quality documentation, without foregoing the human element required to make that possible. The Technical Writer reports to an Engineering Manager in Technical Delivery & Engineering.

Job Responsibilities

  • Closely coordinate with internal and external Project and Product Managers, Engineers, Quality Engineers, and related Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to gather information and align on project deliverables in accordance with contractual obligations as outlined in Statements of Work (SOWs)
  • Translate complex technical material into easily understood language and concepts
  • Closely collaborate with internal and external Project teams to ensure world-class delivery of documentation related to products and services across multiple technologies
  • Use strong consultancy skills through clear analysis and strategic thinking to guide stakeholders toward effective, sustainable solutions
  • Produce and edit ad-hoc technical documentation, including user guides, training materials, FAQs, knowledge-based articles, installation guides, design documents, and project reports
  • Ensure content adheres to defined scope, specifications, and context in accordance with customer expectations and that all content adheres to WWT's standards for quality, graphics, format, and style
  • Maintain consistent voice, tone, and style across all materials
  • Own the documentation lifecycle: drafting, editing, publishing, versioning
  • Communicate and drive documentation best practices
  • Maintain documentation repositories and develop content strategies and / or documentation architecture (e.g., Confluence, GitHub, SharePoint)
  • Develop or enhance standard documentation templates and processes
  • Familiarity with software development processes (e.g., Agile, CI/CD)


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Exceptional interviewing, writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Experience delivering technical documentation (4-6 years)
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Outstanding creative problem solving / analytical skills
  • Extraordinary ability to prioritize work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, multi-project environment
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Suite products (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio)
  • Familiarity with Atlassian products (i.e., Confluence, Jira), TechSmith Snagit, Lucid Software Lucidchart , and Smartsheet
  • U.S. Citizenship may be required for Federal projects
  • Ability to obtain Secret Clearance

When This Role is Done Well

  • Project documentation deliverables are centrally managed by the Technical Writer, are on time, require minimal rework, and represent a quality product suitable for customer consumption
  • Collaboration exists between the Technical Writer and the delivery and sales teams
  • Documentation requiring content from multiple contributors is collaboratively assembled under the direction of the Technical Writer, with appropriate deadlines established for content, is presented in a consistent format, and reads as one voice
  • Project documentation templates exist for common deliverables such as assessment reports and proposals


Working Conditions (If needed )

  • Open office and/or virtual environment
  • Occasional travel should be expected (10%)
  • Typical work schedule will be Monday through Friday

Certain states and localities require employers to post a reasonable estimate of salary range. A reasonable estimate of the current base pay range for this position is $68,000.00 to $103,200.00 annually. Actual salary will be based on a variety of factors, including shift, location, experience, skill set, performance, licensure and certification, and business needs. The range for this position in other geographic locations may differ. Certain positions may also be eligible for variable incentive compensation, such as bonuses or commissions, that is not included in the base pay.
