Description
Amazon Leo is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.
We're looking for Mechanical Engineer with a background in design and analysis of secondary structure and printed circuit board assemblies (PCBA) for satellite systems. The ideal candidate has experience performing secondary structure specific design and analyses such as random vibration analysis and hand calculation sizing based on quasi-static accelerations.
This is a hands-on role for a highly collaborative individual that combines technical and analytical capabilities to convert analytic trade studies to a qualified physical design, while optimizing for high volume production and meeting cross-discipline requirements. The candidate will design, analyze, and test secondary structures while ensuring all requirements are met.

Key job responsibilities
System Architecture & Design Trades: Lead mechanical layout trades to define system configurations. Synthesize complex inputs from Electrical, RF, Thermal, and Dynamics teams.
High-Fidelity Engineering: Generate sophisticated 3D CAD assemblies and 2D manufacturing drawings.
DFM/DFA Optimization: Deliver efficient, high-reliability designs optimized for production throughput using Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Assembly (DFA) principles.
Verification & Test Leadership: Architect and execute development, qualification, and acceptance test campaigns. Design and fabricate precision mechanical test fixtures and adapters required for hardware verification.
Technical Governance: Author and present comprehensive data packages for major design reviews, ensuring cross-functional alignment and mission readiness.
Security Clearance: This position requires that the candidate selected be a US Citizen and candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a US Government security clearance of TS/SCI.

Amazon Leo for Government (ALG) Engineering is a multi-disciplinary technology team established to rapidly address the needs of targeted customers with specific solutions that have the potential to scale. These solutions are tailored to meet the needs of government and international customers for both space-based and terrestrial applications. The Integrated Engineering Solutions organization under ALG Engineering plays a vital role in the entire life cycle of the development of an engineering solution, including architecture development, requirements and interface definition through assembly, integration, and test (AI&T), verification, and post-delivery and operational support.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
- 5+ years of working in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience
- Experience with prototyping and implementation
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment at volume
- Experience with NX and Teamcenter
- 3+ years experience developing test fixtures, test apparatus, support equipment and GSE

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs).
