Duties

  • Performs clerical and administrative work in support of the office/organization.
  • Provides courteous, timely and knowledgeable customer service to facility users and staff in person, via email. and by telephone.
  • Assists in the accurate and timely execution of funds management and collection of fees.
  • Assists in the control of facilities. equipment and supplies.
  • In the absence of the Center Director, Assistant Director, or Supervisory Education Tech acts as the supervisor on duty.

    • Position has "regular contact with children." IAW Public Law 101-647 Section 231, and Public Law 102-190, Section 1094, an FBI fingerprint and State Criminal History Repository (SCHR) Check will be completed on any person selected for this position
    • Position requires certification in CPR, and training in first aid, medical, and security requirements and procedures.
    • A qualified typist is required, must type a minimum of 40 WPM; May be required to substitute and assume duties of other clerk during absences.

    • Requires a preemployment physical examination with a renewal at least every 3 years, and current immunizations
    • Must possess maturity and judgement, and be capable of handling emergency situations common in dealing with small children in a child development center environment. Complete training in the observation of symptoms of illness is desirable.
    • May be responsible for dealing with children removed from the classroom due to unruly behavior or illness.
    • Substitute as needed for caregiving staff during short or long absences during the day. While in the classroom, employee is required to perform all applicable caregiving duties.
    • Acts as site supervisor in the absence of supervisor/director/assistant director. Performs other duties as assigned.
    • Full/part-time employees occupying direct childcare positions are eligible for discounts IAW DAF AFSVC/CC Memo, 30 Sep 22; first child 100% / each additional child 25%. Other assigned CYP and FCC personnel are eligible for 25% discount.
    • Depending on the type of position (competitive/excepted) you are selected for, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period.
    • Upon completion of your probationary/trial period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest.
    Qualifications

    In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions.

    SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-04, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes work within child care programs that provided an understanding of procedures related to Child Development and Youth operations; answering inquiries or referring to the responsible staff member; maintaining files or records and performing clerical assignments according to administrative policies and regulations; performing non-routine assignments, such as independently noting and following up on commitments made at meetings/conferences, advising others on preparing correspondence, requirements for various reports, and interpreting new instructions and procedures.

    EDUCATION: Four (4) years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. NOTE: You must submit a copy of transcripts.

    COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position; only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. NOTE: You must submit a copy of transcripts.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
  • Knowledge common clerical practices and office routines.
  • Knowledge of Child Development Center programs and procedures.
  • Knowledge of various office automation software programs, tools, and techniques to support office operations and produce a variety of documents such as letters, reports, spreadsheets, databases, and graphs.
  • Knowledge of correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and skill in typing to accurately format and prepare required correspondence and documentation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally, using tact and courtesy.
  • Ability to learn money handling techniques and procedures.
  • PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

    VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
