Duties

  • Serves as the ESS to the MXG CC/CD/DOM/SEL, provides administrative assistance and continuity to Executive Officers, Directors, and staff action officers who interact with the CC/CD/DOM/SEL, and the assigned front office.
  • Organizes and plans mission critical and key leader engagements for the CC/CD/DOM/SEL, as well as supporting staff.
  • Ensures completion of required administrative duties.
  • Maintains CC/CD/DOM/SEL calendars, coordinates meeting arrangements, and schedules meetings and/or conferences including those involving staff from outside the immediate office.
  • Oversees updates on personnel rosters, organization charts, recall rosters, and various unit subordinate squadrons as well as responsible for the being the designated ATTAPS Timekeeper.

  • The employee provides for continuity of operation during frequent turnover of military and civilian personnel in the office.
  • This position may be subject to other duties as determined by the CC/CD/DOM/SEL.
  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.

Qualifications:
In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Group Coverage Qualification Standards for Administrative and Management Positions for the GS-0301, Miscellaneous Administration and Program Series.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade (GS-09) or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes: Applying analytical, evaluative, and investigative methods and techniques to issues concerning the efficiency and effectiveness of group administrative procedures and operations; utilizing office automation software processing procedures and function keys to produce a wide range of documents that often require complex formats such as graphics or tables within text; analyzing and measuring the effectiveness, efficiency, and productivity of administrative and technical problems by using both qualitative and quantitative techniques; and editing/reformatting electronic drafts as well as updating/revising existing databases or spreadsheets.

EDUCATION: Must have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR three (3) full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.M., if related. (NOTE: YOU MUST SUBMIT COPIES OF YOUR TRANSCRIPTS)

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements are at least 100%. (NOTE: YOU MUST SUBMIT COPIES OF YOUR TRANSCRIPTS)

FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-09 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-11 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
  • Knowledge of organizational issues, programs, missions, functions, administrative operations, and task management. Knowledge and skill in applying analytical, evaluative, and investigative methods and techniques concerning efficiency and effectiveness of group administrative and support program operations. This position requires knowledge of principles of staff work, objectives management, organizational techniques for analyzing and measuring the effectiveness, efficiency, and productivity of administrative and technical programs. Applies knowledge as gatekeeper, task manager, and oversite in obtaining required materials for the commander, deputy group commander, director of maintenance, and group chief.
  • Knowledge of sources, responsibilities, protocol practices, policies and procedures and means for providing assistance and advice to resolve problems, office functions and commitments of supervisor and staff to prepare and review correspondence, to screen telephone calls and visitors, to maintain five calendars, and to perform other substantive or administrative work of the organization.
  • Knowledge of theory and principles of management and organizational, including administrative practices and procedures common to the organization.
  • Skill in applying analytical and evaluative techniques to the identification, consideration and resolution of issues or problems of a procedural or factual nature.
  • Ability to plan and organize work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to develop, coordinate, staff and implement administrative procedures, programs, and directives.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Expertise in the 57 MXG, and supervisory experience, high degree of judgement, resourcefulness, originality, and the ability to foresee the impact of changing technology as well as changes to operational systems and the operational environment is also highly desirable.
