We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Project Engineer to join our MQ-9B Engineering team in Poway, CA. This position will focus on software development projects pertaining to our MQ-9B RPA platform. This is a multi-faceted role dealing with a wide variety of skill sets and stakeholders throughout the project life cycle.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Software Release Management
- Work with the Chief Engineering Office and Program Engineering Teams to fulfill the technical obligations of customer program requirements.
- Collect requirements, plan, and execute detailed development and release schedules for UAV system software releases.
- Identify all functional areas impacted by a software development effort and define all development interdependencies between functional engineering disciplines.
- Manage software development lab asset schedules to ensure all development activities receive adequate lab access time, optimizing wherever possible.
- After system software release and handover to the system test team, provide technical support as the test program progresses through all phases.
- Support the operation of engineering systems by evaluating and interpreting needs and developing effective and creative approaches to resolve issues.
- Manage incoming software problem reports from relevant development efforts, test programs, and operational sites. This includes triaging priority, assigning engineering resources, collecting status updates, and driving investigations to conclusion.
- Evaluate SME analysis of root cause investigation summaries and ensure the completeness and accuracy of investigations.
- Direct activities of design or technical staff and may lead a team of moderately experienced professional staff. May be responsible for directing up to ten separate functional engineering disciplines per project.
- May be assigned dedicated oversight of a particular functional engineering area, working with the leadership of that team to perform detailed product planning. Planning aspects may include staffing management and allocation across enterprise demands, detailed design oversight, and future roadmap planning.
- Provide clear and concise technical documentation and presentations as required.
- Organize and lead engineering meetings with multiple stakeholders to ensure productive outcomes.
- Manage a personal workload consisting of multiple projects and execute tasks in accordance with provided priorities.
- Manage engineering estimates and proposals in response to customer and program management direction.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Observe all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the company.
- Work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

Job Qualifications
- Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; nine or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, seven or more years of experience with a masters degree, or four or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
- Must have a thorough understanding of engineering concepts, principles, codes, and theory, and demonstrate broad application of these concepts. A strong understanding of systems engineering concepts and theory is desired.
- Strong technical root cause analysis skills are required.
- Familiarity with, or background in, system software design, development, testing, and configuration management is desired.
- Familiarity with, or background in, networking and/or cybersecurity disciplines is desired.
- Must be able to understand new concepts quickly, apply them accurately in an evolving environment, organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases, and determine the appropriate approach at the task level or, with assistance, at the project level to solve complex problems.
- Must have excellent communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Must have strong organizational skills and be able to manage and execute competing priorities.
- Experience as a Cost Account Manager (CAM) and an understanding of Earned Value Management (EVM) is desired.
- Experience with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and export licenses is desired.
- Able to work extended hours as required.
- Able to travel domestically and internationally as required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance is required.
