Our DOD/Aerospace client is looking to fill an Android OS (Android Open Source Project) Embedded Software Engineer position that just opened in Dedham, MA. In this role you'll design, develop, and integrate AOSP-based embedded software on custom hardware for mission-critical cybersecurity products. Overview
Our client delivers advanced engineering solutions supporting mission-critical operations for the Department of Defense and aerospace programs. This role develops Android Open Source Project (AOSP)-based embedded software on custom hardware for NSA-certified cybersecurity devices, focusing on high-assurance, high-speed data applications.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and integrate AOSP-based embedded software on custom hardware for mission-critical cybersecurity products.
- Implement real-time, multi-threaded services on Linux/Android; contribute to Android system applications and platform components.
- Translate CONOPS/specifications/requirements into software designs, code, test plans, and perform execution, testing, and debugging.
- Develop device drivers and low-level platform features; optimize performance, reliability, and security.
- Use modern build systems (Ninja/SOONG) and CI practices; maintain documentation, version control, and defect tracking.
- Collaborate across hardware, systems, security, and test teams through full lifecycle, including tech refresh and long-term sustainment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering or related STEM field and 5+ years of related experience; OR Master's degree plus 3 years.
- Experience with real-time, multi-threaded embedded software on Linux/Android.
- Strong object-oriented design and programming skills (preferably UML, C++, Java).
- Hands-on AOSP platform development and Android system application development.
- Familiarity with model-based development (e.g., Rhapsody).
- Experience with ARM virtualization extensions/Hypervisor (preferred).
- Proficiency with IDEs, version control, defect tracking, and scripting.
Clearance Requirements
- Department of Defense Secret clearance required at time of hire.
- Applicants will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
- U.S. citizenship is required.
Nice to Have
- Hypervisor technologies; advanced Linux internals.
- Device drivers for embedded platforms.
- Experience with Ninja/SOONG build systems.
- Rhapsody/UML modeling for embedded systems.
