Amentum is seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Environmental Specialist to support Department of State (DOS) and federal environmental compliance efforts in the Washington, DC area. The Environmental Specialist plays a critical role in monitoring environmental conditions, evaluating the impact of human activities, identifying potential risks, and developing strategies to protect ecosystems and human health.
This position involves collecting and analyzing environmental samples, ensuring compliance with federal environmental laws and DOS standards, and recommending mitigation measures to minimize environmental impacts across facility operations and projects.

Key Responsibilities
- Monitor environmental conditions and assess the impact of facility operations, activities, and projects on the surrounding environment.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret environmental samples, including air, water, soil, and hazardous materials.
- Identify environmental risks and develop mitigation strategies to support sustainable operations and regulatory compliance.
- Ensure adherence to DOS environmental policies, federal environmental laws, and regulations such as the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, RCRA, NEPA, and other applicable standards.
- Prepare detailed reports, assessments, and documentation for environmental compliance and audits.
- Provide technical guidance on environmental best practices, waste management, pollution prevention, and sustainability initiatives.
- Support environmental incident investigations and corrective action planning.
- Collaborate with facility managers, project teams, and regulatory agencies to ensure environmental responsibilities are met.
- Maintain accurate records of sampling data, inspections, and compliance documentation.
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, or related field.
- Strong understanding of federal environmental laws, regulations, and compliance frameworks.
- 3 years of experience conducting field sampling, environmental testing, or environmental impact assessments.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex environmental data.
- Excellent communication skills, including report writing and documentation.
- Ability to obtain and maintain government Secret clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting Department of State (DOS) or other federal agencies.
- Certifications such as HAZWOPER, OSHA 40-hour, environmental compliance certificates, or related credentials.
- Knowledge of sustainability practices, pollution prevention methods, and environmental management systems.
- Experience working in laboratory environments or conducting environmental audits.
