Amentum is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Occupational Health & Safety Specialist to support workplace safety initiatives and compliance programs in the Washington, DC area. This role is responsible for evaluating work environments, identifying potential hazards, and developing comprehensive safety programs to prevent injuries and occupational illnesses.
The Occupational Health & Safety Specialist also investigates workplace incidents, determines root causes, and develops corrective actions to prevent future occurrences, ensuring full compliance with OSHA, federal, state, and Department of State (DOS) safety standards.

Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate and monitor workplace environments to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective measures.
- Develop, implement, and maintain safety programs, policies, and procedures that promote a safe and healthy work environment.
- Conduct safety inspections, assessments, and audits to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Investigate workplace accidents, incidents, and near misses; determine root causes and prepare detailed reports.
- Implement measures to prevent recurrence of incidents through training, policy updates, and corrective actions.
- Deliver safety training sessions on topics such as hazard recognition, PPE use, emergency procedures, and OSHA compliance.
- Track and analyze safety metrics, trends, and performance indicators to support continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA standards, federal regulations, DOS safety requirements, and industry best practices.
- Collaborate with managers, facility teams, and employees to promote a strong safety culture.
- Maintain accurate documentation, incident records, and compliance files.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health, or a related field.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations, federal safety laws, and workplace safety standards.
- 3 Years of experience conducting workplace assessments, safety audits, or incident investigations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret safety data and trends.
- Excellent communication and training/presentation skills.
- Ability to obtain and maintain the required government Secret clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in government, DOS, or federal facility environments.
- Professional certifications such as CHST, OHST, CSP, CIH, or similar safety credentials.
- Experience in emergency response planning, risk management, ergonomics, or industrial hygiene.
- Familiarity with safety management systems and safety performance tracking tools.
