Data Scientist - Smart City

Qatar

Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Data Scientist - Smart City to join our team. In this role, you will provide technical expertise for a prestigious, multidisciplinary smart city project, implementing data‑driven insights that support strategic and operational decision‑making. You will be responsible for collecting, cleaning, and validating big data, and applying your statistical, computational, and analytical skills to extract insights and knowledge from complex datasets. By identifying patterns and trends, you will help drive data‑driven decisions, improve business and city operations, and fine‑tune strategies for the smart city. You will combine scientific methods, algorithms, systems, and processes to interpret complex data and transform it into actionable intelligence for stakeholders.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Apply analytic capabilities to solve complex problems from a combination of unstructured, semi-structured, and structured data , to drive strategic decisions
  • Provide statistical and mathematical support to analyze and interpret a wide range of data in order to provide solutions for smart city systems.
  • Work with various stakeholders to present and operationalize data to achieve actionable insights to drive customer strategy and decisions.
  • Develop and deploy data models and statistical analysis to solve complex problems and drive strategic decisions
  • Conduct advanced data analysis, and utilize data visualization tools and data storytelling to present findings to stakeholders in an understandable manner.
  • Supporting the development and implementation of the city's Big Data platform, and optimize its usage.
  • Ensure data quality, integrity, and security through data cleaning, pre-processing, and validation techniques.
  • Document your work thoroughly, including algorithm specifications, data analysis reports, and model performance evaluations.


What Required Skills You'll Bring
  • BSc. in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field. (Master's degree in the field is a plus.
  • Minimum 10 years of overall work experience, with minimum 3 years of proven experience with the end-to-end data science project lifecycle, from data collection and cleaning to model deployment and maintenance..
  • Proven experience with Big Data technologies
  • Familiarity with real-time data processing frameworks
  • Proficiency with data mining, mathematics, and statistical analysis
  • Solid understanding of statistical modeling, machine learning algorithms, and data mining techniques
  • Experience with Excel, PowerPoint, Tableau, SQL, and programming languages (ex: Java/Python, SAS)
  • Proven analytics skills, including mining, evaluation, and visualization
  • Strong SQL or Excel skills, with aptitude for learning other analytics tools
  • Sound knowledge of data lake deployment and functionality in multiple environments (Cloud, on prem, hybrid).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to a non-technical audience.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proven track record of using data to drive business outcomes
  • Proficient in technical documentation and writing.
  • Professional certification in the field is a plus


What Desired Skills You'll Bring
  • Experience working on smart city, urban infrastructure, transportation, utilities, or IoT‑driven projects.
  • Hands‑on experience with cloud big data and analytics services.
  • Familiarity with MLOps practices (CI/CD for ML, model monitoring, retraining, and lifecycle management).
  • Experience integrating analytics outputs into dashboards, digital twins, or command & control platforms.
  • Knowledge of GIS/spatial data analysis and visualization.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments and collaborating in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong presentation skills, including the ability to tell a clear "data story" to senior stakeholders.
  • Prior experience in the Middle East / GCC and smart city is an advantage.
