Position: DevOps/Systems Engineer (Infrastructure-focused)
Location: Fort Worth, TX
Duration: Long-term, open ended
Type: W2 contract, paid hourly. No C2C, 1099, or third-party submissions will be accepted. Only direct W-2 candidates will be considered.
Pay Rate Range: $70-87/hr.
Shift: Monday – Thursday, 10 hours each day (onsite)

Apex Systems is hiring for a RHEL Systems Engineer for one of our defense clients in the Fort Worth, TX area.
PLEASE NOTE: Candidates must be able to obtain and/or maintain a DoD SECRET security clearance as a condition and continuation of employment*
The Infrastructure-focused DevOps/Systems Engineer – IT will support a mixed-environment enterprise consisting of RHEL, Solaris, and Windows systems within a highly controlled, security-focused environment. This role involves systems administration, automation, virtualization, and troubleshooting across multiple platforms. The engineer will collaborate with internal teams to maintain system reliability, implement modernization efforts, and support mission-critical operations. Lead/assist in migration from Solaris backbone to RHEL backbone. Contribute to both building and utilizing CI/CD pipelines. Support automation and containerization efforts.
Education
Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work experience.
Qualifications
• Active DoD Secret Clearance | Active CompTIA Security+ Certification (mandatory)
• Linux Administration: RHEL 7+ (RHEL 8–9 strongly preferred)
• Windows Administration: Windows 10/11 and Windows Server (Active Directory, DNS, DHCP)
• Automation & IaC: Hands-on experience with Ansible - Able to read, understand, and create basic automation scripts, YAML or related tooling
• CI/CD pipline: development and utilization
• Scripting: Python, Groovy, Bash
• Virtualization: VMware vCenter 8 and VMware Workstation experience
• Solaris 10 Administration (OJT acceptable due to legacy nature)
• Containerization: Docker and/or Podman
• Database Experience: Oracle SQL and/or PostgreSQL
• Red Hat Satellite Server (content management, patching, lifecycle management)
Security Clearance:
• SECRET clearance required
