Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated Advanced Manufacturing Technician to support our aerospace advanced manufacturing team. This role will primarily focus on the operation and sustainment of an automated paint robotic system, ensuring paint processes are executed efficiently, consistently, and in strict compliance with documented procedures.

The technician will be responsible for running long-duration paint operations, performing masking and preparation work, reading and executing SOPs, process plans, and specifications, and supporting troubleshooting and light maintenance activities. Over time, this role will expand into additional advanced manufacturing capabilities such as automated scanning systems and potentially additive manufacturing (3D printing).

This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented technician who thrives in structured aerospace environments and enjoys working with automation and precision processes.

The Operations Strategic Capabilities Unit plays a fundamental role in enabling efficient business and program execution - from strategic capital investments, industrial operations and an efficient supply chain, to state-of-the-art manufacturing and test operations and top-notch facilities management.

What You'll Do:
  • Operate automated robotic paint systems in accordance with established SOPs, process plans, and engineering specifications.
  • Perform paint preparation tasks including masking, surface prep, and staging of parts.
  • Monitor long paint cycle operations to ensure consistent quality and process stability.
  • Mix coatings and chemicals using correct ratios, scaling, and batch documentation requirements.
  • Conduct in-process inspections using precision measuring tools to verify tolerances and quality requirements.
  • Troubleshoot basic robot/process interruptions and coordinate support for higher-level issues.
  • Perform light preventative maintenance and cleaning of paint robotic equipment and work areas.
  • Accurately document work completed, deviations, and process observations.
  • Support continuous improvement activities alongside engineers and technical specialists.
  • Cross-train over time into other advanced manufacturing technologies such as scanning robotics and additive manufacturing.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.

Working Conditions:
  • Work is performed in an office environment, laboratory, cleanroom, or production floor.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • High School diploma or equivalent plus 2 years or more related experience.
  • Each higher-level related degree, i.e., Bachelor's or Master's, may substitute for two years of related experience. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • Experience operating in a regulated manufacturing environment (aerospace, automotive, medical, etc.).
  • Ability to read and follow detailed work instructions, SOPs, process plans, and specifications.
  • Strong comprehension of engineering drawings, symbols, and tolerances.
  • Proficiency with basic measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges, etc.).
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Experience with mixing ratios, scaling, and controlled process preparation.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize work based on process needs.
  • Self-directed, self-motivated, and able to work independently with minimal oversight.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn advanced automation systems.
  • Ability to monitor and sustain long-duration paint operations with consistency.
  • Comfortable working around coatings, solvents, PPE, and industrial paint environments.
