As a WEAPONS SYSTEMS POLICY ANALYST at the GS-0301-13/14 some of your typical work assignments may include:
  • Interpret and apply national security and arms transfer policy guidelines in the context of foreign defense sales programs including Foreign Military Sales (FMS).
  • Formulate recommendations related to technology transfers, defense production, and weapons sales in support of U.S. national security and foreign policy objectives.
  • Maintain a detailed familiarity with U.S. Security Cooperation and Security Assistance processes.
  • Recommend changes, modifications, or development of new practices to improve procedural and technical implementation of Security Cooperation programs.
  • Prepare briefing papers, position papers, or responses to other inquiries, with the ability to assess, interpret or provide input on technical matters related to weapons systems and defense sales.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-13 grade level, if you fulfill the following qualifications:

A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service:
  • Coordinating with the U.S. defense industry or government affairs organizations on issues relating to Security Cooperation, industrial processes, or state of the art defense technology.

You may qualify at the GS-14, if you fulfill the following qualifications:

A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service:
  • Developing, coordinating, and interpreting policy related to weapons systems technologies, arms transfers, and Department of War managed Security Cooperation Programs
  • Formulating policy recommendations and proposing plans, processes, or programs to implement approved policies or strategies
  • Coordinating with the U.S. defense industry or government affairs organizations on issues relating to Security Cooperation, industrial processes, or state of the art defense technology.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
