Overview
Nakupu na Foundation is seeking a Lega l Intern to support our in-house legal department this summer. This summer internship offers the opportunity to work directly with the General Counsel at a Native Hawaiian Organization-owned business that serves customers across the U.S. while learning from colleagues who voted their company as one of the best places to work in Hawai'i!
The Legal Intern will gain valuable exposure to the in-house legal function and contribute to Nakupuna 's mission by supporting a wide range of legal matters, including human resources, contracts, procurement, and compliance. Reporting directly to the General Counsel and collaborating with various departments, the intern will assist with daily legal operations and participate in key projects, such as conducting legal research, supporting internal planning efforts, and performing administrative tasks.
This is a paid internship for students currently pursuing a law degree . The position is based in Honolulu, Hawai ʻ i , and requires approximately 40 hours per week, preferably for the duration of the summer term (May 26, 2026, through September 6, 2026). Application must be submitted by February 28, 2026.
Responsibilities

Under direct supervision the ideal candidate will work with General Counsel on a variety of matters, including government contracting, investigations, litigation, and compliance .
Qualifications
Skills & Qualifications: Must be 18 years of age and a U.S. citizen. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills. They possess excellent verbal and written communication abilities, along with strong organizational and time management skills, enabling them to effectively manage multiple tasks and deadlines. A detail-oriented and proactive approach, coupled with a willingness to learn and adapt, is essential. The intern should be able to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team, and demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, and Outlook. Strong interpersonal skills, a professional demeanor, and a solid work ethic are also important for success in this role.
Due to the remote nature of this internship, access to broadband WiFi is required to work effectively in a virtual office environment.
Education: Must be currently enrolled in a J.D. program at an ABA accredited school.
Work Location: Must be able to work in Honolulu, Hawai ʻ i.
In-Office Requirements: Due to the hybrid (mix of in-person and remote ) nature of this internship, intern must have the ability to work from the Honolulu office a minimum of two days per week.

The Nakupuna Companies use a market-based compensation strategy to ensure that our employees are compensated within applicable market ranges commensurate with multiple factors, including but not limited to the individual's particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability, organizational requirements, and position location. The projected compensation range for this position is $20 to $30 (hourly USD). The hourly range displayed represents the typical hourly range for this position and is just one component of Nakupuna Companies total compensation package for employees.

- Support internal investigations and compliance reviews
- Support litigation activities and administrative agency processes/inquiries
- Conduct legal research on a range of topics, including employment law, government contracting, compliance and intellectual property
- Draft memos, briefings and other legal documents
- Assist with updating and drafting of corporate policies
- Attend meetings with other departments and participate in corporate events
