Overview
Join Nakupuna Foundation as we are seeking a Jr. Human Resource Specialist Intern to provide administrative support to the Human Resources team and assist with day-to-day HR operations. The Jr. Human Resource Specialist Intern supports new hire processing and onboarding, maintains accurate employee records, and helps ensure HR systems are current and compliant.
Working closely with HR team members, Business Operations, and hiring managers, this role assists with processing new hires, responding to employee inquiries, and supporting employee lifecycle activities. The position also helps manage HR ticket requests, employment verifications, and other general administrative tasks, while escalating complex or sensitive matters to senior HR staff as appropriate .
This position is within a family of Native Hawaiian-owned companies that provide various services to government clients throughout the U.S. With Headquarters in Honolulu and offices throughout the United States, the relationships created within the Nakupuna Companies will serve as a basis for networking in the Pacific, Hawai' i, Washington, DC, and around the country.
This is a paid internship for students currently pursuing a post-baccalaureate or graduate degree, as well as recent post-baccalaureate or graduate graduates. The position is based in Honolulu, Hawaii, and requires approximately 40 hours per week, preferably for the duration of the summer term (May 26, 2026, through September 6, 2026). Application must be submitted by February 28, 2026.

Qualifications
Skills/Qualifications: Must be 18 years of age and a U.S. citizen . A pplicants must also be enrolled as a degree-seeking student in an accredited college program and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or greater. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications with emphasis in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and on-line search engines required . Familiarity with government contracting and related HR requirements. Positive attitude and a willingness to learn and grow in the role. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with candidates and colleagues.
Education and Experience:
In-Office Requirements: Due to the hybrid (mix of in-person and remote) nature of this internship, intern must have the ability to work from the Honolulu office a minimum of two days per week.

The Nakupuna Companies use a market-based compensation strategy to ensure that our employees are compensated within applicable market ranges commensurate with multiple factors, including but not limited to the individual's particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability, organizational requirements, and position location. The projected compensation range for this position is $18 to $24 (hourly USD). The hourly range displayed represents the typical hourly range for this position and is just one component of Nakupuna Companies total compensation package for employees.

- Send out notification of new hire setup and offer letter to HR Team, Business Operation, and Hiring Manager to ensure new hires are processed on time
- Create and set up new hire(s) checklist MS Outlook calendar
- Manage file feeds and troubleshoot errors sent by iCIMS (ATS) and ADP (HRIS)
- Serve as a backup to set up, coordinate, and conduct new hire onboarding
- Organize, track, maintain , and improve HR records generation, administration, and retention
- Accurately enter and maintain new hire and employee information in ADP, including personal details, job title, job function, compensation, home department, clearance, etc
- Assist and manage in Shared Services Freshservice tickets
- Manage FreshService verification of employment tickets and prepare employment verification letter as requested by employee or authorized parties
- Provide general administrative support to the Human Resource Team as needed, including filing, responding to employee inquiries, and updating internal trackers
- Prepare and draft termination/separation/change of status lette rs
- Update and process employee termination within ADP
- Responds to employment-related questions from new hires, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate Conducts appropriate follow-up and helps close out inquiries
- All other duties as assigned by leadership
Qualifications

- Currently pursuing or have completed a Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management or a related field from an accredited institution
- One year of prior experience in a Human Resources role is preferred but not required
- Previous customer service experience is a plus, demonstrating strong communication and interpersonal skills
