With Headquarters in Honolulu and offices throughout the United States, th e Intern will collaborate with employees nationwide and foster relationships within the Nakupuna Companies that will serve as a basis for networking in Washington, DC, and around the country.
This is a paid internship for students currently pursuing a post-baccalaureate or graduate degree, as well as recent post-baccalaureate or graduate degree recipients . The position is based in Honolulu, Hawai ʻ i, and requires approximately 40 hours per week, preferably for the duration of the summer term (May 26, 2026, through September 6, 2026). Application must be submitted by February 28, 2026.
Responsibilities
Experience the complete accounting cycle by a ssist ing the Finance & Accounting team across multiple areas of standard operations including creation of journal entries, daily transaction recordings , month-end close adjustments, and post-close reconciliation and exception reporting . Intern will receive regular assignments for setting up new hires, processing accounts payable vouchers and expense reports, completing journal entries, and other short-term projects.
The following reflects management's general expectations for this position in alignment with KOIP goals but does not restrict the tasks that may be assigned . Management may assign additional duties and responsibilities to this job at any time due to reasonable accommodation or other reasons.
Qualifications
Skills/Qualifications: Must be 18 years of age and a U.S. citizen. A pplicants must be enrolled as a degree-seeking student a t an accredited institution with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 of higher .
Due to the hybrid nature of this internship, access to broadband WiFi is required to work effectively in a virtual office environment. Additional qualifications include intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) and excellent written and verbal communication skills .
A ccounting-related cours es ( e.g. Principles of Accounting, Intermediate Accounting) , either completed or in progress, are preferred.
Education: Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree.
In-Office Requirements: Due to the hybrid (mix of in-person and remote ) nature of this internship, intern must have the ability to work from the Honolulu office a minimum of two days per week.

The projected compensation range for this position is $18 to $24 (hourly USD). - A pply financial accounting principles in a real-world setting with oversight from a member of the Finance & Accounting team
- Process journal entries and other financial data in Deltek Costpoint (ERP system)
- Enter invoices and vouchers into NES (Nakupuna Enterprise Systems) and Costpoint to prepare for weekly disbursement run
- Assist in preparing cash receipts and assigning project codes in Project Workforce
- Follow the basic processes and controls necessary to ensure financial data is entered and maintained accurately
- Learn the flow of financial data used for decision-making by executives and its criticality in driving business operations
- Perform functions for the billing team to include timesheet redacting, expense gathering, timesheet reporting, and IWA (Intercompany Work Authorizations) funding.
- W ork closely with all members of the Finance & Accounting team in different time zones and leverage collaborative platforms (Microsoft Sharepoint , Teams) to communicate and complete assignments
- I mprove processes and communicate effectively with team members to solve accounting problems
- Share internship experiences with the Nakupuna Foundation leadership
