Onsite Job - Principal Computer Systems Architect Level 3
Location: San Diego, CA 92108 | Contract | 1st Shift (9/80A) | $145/hr Max | Must obtain/maintain Secret clearance | No telecommute
About the Role
Join our cutting-edge team as a Principal Computer Systems Architect and play a pivotal role in delivering national defense solutions. You'll drive digital transformation by leveraging Model-Based Engineering, DevSecOps, and Agile methodologies. Work side-by-side with expert engineers and technicians, leading integration of emerging technologies and refining critical systems to support the warfighter. This onsite role offers opportunities for professional development, knowledge sharing, and mentorship in a collaborative environment dedicated to continuous learning and innovation.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with engineers and technicians in lab-based, hands-on environments
- Advise and integrate new industry technologies into complex system architectures
- Implement and document engineering changes to mission-critical systems
- Analyze technical requirements and incorporate them into end-to-end architectures
- Complete network configurations and coordinate closely with peers, SMEs, and government engineers
- Provide regular milestone progress and support occasional travel (10%)
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to process improvements
Required Skills and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in science, engineering, or related field plus 5 years' STEM experience (4 additional years of experience accepted in lieu of degree)
- Deep technical knowledge of Red Hat and/or other Linux operating systems
- Proficient with Splunk
- Strong understanding of STIGs, STIG implementation, and DNS (especially Linux BIND)
- Hands-on scripting/programming (Bash/Shell, Ansible, Python)
- Experience working onsite in a secure, fast-paced environment
- Eligible to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance
- Willingness to travel up to 10% as needed
Preferred Skills
- Imaging, backup, and restore scripting (Clonezilla, Linux dump)
- Experience leading/managing internal engineering programs and delegating tasks
- Hands-on with containers: Docker, Red Hat OpenShift, Kubernetes
- Virtualization expertise with VMWare, KVM, Hyper-V, RH-V
- Mentoring and training junior engineers
- Flexible scheduling abilities (including 2nd shift, RDO Fridays, weekends as needed)
- Advanced networking knowledge, including iSCSI
- Linux/Unix systems design, implementation, and sustainment
- Containerization technology design and sustainment
