Position Overview

The Aircraft Mechanic III supports Organizational (O-Level) and Intermediate (I-Level) maintenance and logistics operations for the Department of the Navy C-130 and KC-130 aircraft fleet at NAS JRB Fort Worth. This position provides hands-on technical expertise and team leadership during scheduled and unscheduled maintenance actions, including Isochronal (ISO) inspections (1080 days and below), 700-hour engine inspections, Technical Directive (TD) compliance, and high-time component replacements.

Aircraft Mechanic III personnel lead and supervise maintenance teams during aircraft induction, look-and-fix execution, and return-to-service operations while ensuring strict compliance with Naval Aviation Maintenance Program (NAMP) requirements, approved work decks, and contract PWS directives. This role supports single-aircraft flow operations, with flexibility to support concurrent inductions when required to maintain workload continuity.

This position encompasses three technical specialties:

AM – Airframes & Mechanical
AD – Powerplant
AVI – Avionics / Electrical

Primary Responsibilities

General Responsibilities (All Specialties)
• Lead and perform scheduled and unscheduled aircraft maintenance at O- and I-levels
• Supervise, mentor, and technically guide Aircraft Mechanic I, II, and III personnel
• Certify aircraft Safe for Flight in accordance with applicable T/M/S instructions
• Perform aircraft inspections, troubleshooting, preservation and depreservation activities
• Execute flight line operations, aircraft movement, and ground handling from arrival to departure
• Maintain aircraft, engine, ALSS, egress, armament, and SE logbooks and records
• Ensure compliance with Technical Directives (TDs), maintenance instructions, and QA requirements
• Utilize and safeguard tools, test equipment, and support equipment under the Tool Control Program
• Support Maintenance Control planning, scheduling, and documentation activities
• Participate in corrosion control, aircraft painting, and emergency reclamation actions
• Apply technical data, blueprints, and manufacturer manuals to resolve complex maintenance issues

Specialty-Specific Responsibilities:

Aircraft Mechanic III (AM) – Airframes & Mechanical
• Perform and inspect structural repairs, sheet metal fabrication, and airframe modifications
• Maintain and repair flight control systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components
• Conduct corrosion prevention, structural inspections, and non-complex electrical system assessments
• Provide technical support to engineers and customers regarding airframe configuration and repairs

Aircraft Mechanic III (AD) – Powerplant
• Perform maintenance, inspection, and repair of C-130/KC-130 engines and APU systems
• Execute engine turn-up operations (low power and full power) upon qualification
• Conduct vibration analysis, engine troubleshooting, and component replacement
• Support engine logbook accuracy, engine inspections, and propulsion system readiness

Aircraft Mechanic III (AVI) – Avionics / Electrical
• Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair aircraft avionics, navigation, communication, and electrical systems
• Perform avionics inspections, system operational checks, and electrical fault isolation
• Ensure ESD/EMI compliance and reporting
• Support compass calibration, data systems, and technical data management

Qualifications & Certifications
• Active SECRET clearance
• Demonstrated experience leading aircraft maintenance teams on C-130 / KC-130 platforms
• Qualification to:
- Certify Aircraft Safe for Flight
- Make and certify aircraft, engine, ALSS, egress, armament, and SE logbook entries
- Serve as CDQAR and CDI (Airframes, Powerplants, Avionics, Electrical Systems)
• Vibration Analysis Operator / Interpreter qualification
• Tire & Wheel and Hydraulic Contamination Control qualification
• Plane Captain / Plane Handler qualification
• Licensed Forklift Operator
• APU / Engine Low Power and Full Power Operator (as applicable; practical exams certified by Government)
• Thorough knowledge of aircraft maintenance tools, test equipment, and inspection devices
• Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize workload to meet aircraft delivery schedules
