Company Overview
Metrea is a defense company dedicated to translating commercial innovation into solutions for the hardest problems in national security. With deep mission expertise, Metrea focuses on delivering effects-as-a-service across Aerospace, Electromagnetic & Cyber, Digital & Synthetic domains via its capability groups. Metrea also consists of six support groups (Operations, People, Finance, Legal, Strategy and Solutions) that guide the development of specific capabilities that Metrea's files (product, projects, programs etc) leverage to achieve their targets.
Electromagnetic and Cyber Group (EM&C) is responsible for developing flexible and survivable advanced electronic warfare and secure communications equipment while providing the industry’s leading signals intelligence, electronic warfare, and cyber experts. Metrea specializes in signal classification, direction finding, advanced geolocation techniques, and waveform development including waveforms for MANET and LPI/LPD applications. Metrea also develops special purpose radios for government customers and licenses DF and geolocation solutions to multiple OEMs.
Position Summary
Reporting to the SHADOWLAB Lead Engineer, Electromagnetics and Cyber Group (EM&C), and supporting Metrea’s overall engineering efforts, the Electrical Engineer will join our busy team specializing in state-of-the-art military communications and signals intelligence products. All our teams operate in a small agile environment which allows our engineering personnel to work independently on a wide variety of systems and products. Our mix of product development and R&D also provides our engineering staff with a constant flow of new and interesting projects.
Roles and Responsibilities
1. Schematic & PCBA Design
Design, review, and maintain electrical schematics and printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs), including component selection, power distribution, signal integrity considerations, and layout guidance for mixed-signal, RF, and digital systems.
2. Component Selection & BOM Ownership
Select components based on electrical performance, availability, lifecycle status, and cost; create and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs), including alternates and risk mitigation for supply chain constraints.
3. Design for Manufacturability & Test (DFM/DFT)
Collaborate with manufacturing and test teams to ensure PCBAs meet DFM/DFT requirements, including panelization guidance, test point access, programming interfaces, and production yield optimization.
4. Bring-Up, Debug, & Validation
Lead board bring-up and troubleshooting using lab instrumentation (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, etc.), perform root-cause analysis, and validate designs against electrical, functional, and environmental requirements.
5. Documentation & Configuration Control
Produce and maintain clear engineering documentation, including schematics, design notes, interface definitions, test procedures, and ECOs, ensuring traceability and configuration control throughout the product lifecycle.
6. Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration
Work closely with mechanical, software, systems, and manufacturing engineers to support system-level integration, trade studies, requirements flow-down, and iterative design improvements from prototype through production.
Skills and Experience
1. End-to-End PCBA Design & Ownership
Demonstrated experience taking PCBAs from concept through schematic capture, layout, fabrication, assembly, and revision spins — including component selection, stack-up definition, design rule constraints, and incorporation of lessons learned from first-article builds.
2. Hands-On Board Bring-Up & Debug
Proven ability to power-on, program, and debug newly assembled PCBAs using lab instrumentation (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, power analyzers), identify and resolve issues such as power sequencing faults, signal integrity problems, and assembly defects.
3. Professional EDA Tool Proficiency (Altium / Cadence / Mentor)
Practical, production-level experience using Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro/OrCAD, or Mentor Graphics/Xpedition for schematic capture, PCB layout, library management, and manufacturing output generation (Gerbers, ODB++, pick-and-place, and fab/assembly drawings).
Our Firmware
Metrea’s single core value, “rooted in humility,” is supported by four key attributes: entrepreneurial, systematic, discerning, and over-deliver. These attributes, combined, form our Teammate Firmware, our culture. We explore these attributes during the hiring process when we grow our teams and continually support the growth of our culture. We are a hyper-collaborative, dynamically hierarchical organization united by a passion for what we do, how we do it, who we do it with, and who we do it for.
Work Authorization / Security Clearance
Employee must be a US citizen.
