Summit Technologies Inc. is seeking a Senior Embedded Computing Engineer to develop advanced power and energy propulsion systems for unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs) and other areas within our client’s business units. You will work with an interdisciplinary research and development team comprised of engineering, scientific, power generation, power storage, and security experts to develop, implement, and test embedded systems solutions utilized in UUVs and other mission-critical applications.
Leverage your experience in robotics, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), autonomous vehicles, space systems, missile systems, submarines, robotic warfare, and/or naval technologies to support national security missions, ocean exploration, and subsea infrastructure. Certain innovations may also be deployed across other functional domains within the client’s established commercial power generation, storage, and distribution systems.
This is a fulltime on-site role located in Niskayuna, NY. Only U.S. Citizens will be considered as this role requires a DoD secret clearance.

Roles & Responsibilities:
• Develop Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA) solutions for embedded systems and industrial control systems (ICS).
• Leverage FPGA design tools to develop, simulate, test, and optimize real-time embedded systems.
• Help transition edge computing, real-time embedded controls, and embedded communication systems from early-stage lab demonstrations to fieldable prototypes.
• Design, model, simulate, implement, and optimize real-time critical embedded systems.
• Collaborate with hardware suppliers and engineering tool providers to identify and select solutions for challenging industrial and defense applications.
• Partner with U.S. government agencies to shape competitive proposals and lead projects that deliver innovative solutions protecting critical national infrastructure.
• Engage with universities, industrial consortiums, commercial partners, and others to advance the state of the art in embedded computing.
• Publish technical papers, file patents, and contribute to open-source communities.

Education & Experience Requirements:
• Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related disciplines with a minimum of seven years of industry experience preferred [a master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related disciplines with a minimum of ten years of industry experience OR a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related disciplines with a minimum of 15 years of industry experience may be substituted as an equivalent].
• A minimum of three (up to seven years preferred) of strong Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA)/System on Chip (SoC) design and development experience with Verilog and VHDL.
• A minimum of three years (up to seven years preferred) experience working with Xilinx and/or Altera devices, tools, and ecosystem (e.g., ModelSim, Intel Quartus, Xilinx Vivado).
• A minimum of three years (up to seven years preferred) experience working with the development of real-time embedded applications and systems on microcontrollers, FPGAs, x86, and/or ARM processors.
• A minimum of three years (up to seven years preferred) experience working with heterogeneous computer architecture and hardware acceleration techniques.
• A minimum of three years (up to seven years preferred) working with strong embedded programming skills (e.g., C/C++/C#, Java, Python, MATLAB).
• A minimum of three years (up to seven years preferred) experience working with Linux driver and/or Linux kernel development and Linux build systems (e.g., Yocto).
• Working knowledge of real-time hypervisors (e.g., RTS, VxWorks) and Docker containers is desired.
• Experience with real-time operating systems (e.g., QNX, RTLinux) is a plus.
• Understanding of embedded system security requirements and cyber security techniques is preferred.
• Proven history of writing winning proposals with U.S. government agencies such as DoE, ARPA-e, CESER, DoD, DARPA is highly desired.

• Active U.S. DoD secret clearance (interim secret may be considered to start).
