Responsibilities Include:

  • Ensures compliance with OSHA and Privacy Act standards, including those set by USMEPCOM, the Department of Defense, and applicable service regulations.


  • Conducts thorough medical record reviews, histories, and physical examinations per Department of Defense standards; evaluates lab results, ensures accurate profiling, and coordinates with consultants and Service waiver authorities.


  • Evaluates diagnostic test results conducted by the MEPS medical department to identify potential disqualifying conditions.
  • Participate in peer reviews and continuous quality improvement initiatives, ensuring the highest standards of care and service delivery.


  • Performs comprehensive in-person medical histories for applicants who have completed the prescreening process and received authorization to proceed.


  • Assesses applicants for injuries, deformities, defects, and disorders across all body systems, including dental, psychiatric, and behavioral, and conducts a standardized orthopedic-neurological exam.


  • Determines the need for further physical examination of identified problem areas.


  • Directly informs applicants of abnormal findings through personal consultation or written communication.


  • Conveys updates to medical staff for entry into the USMEPCOM-specific applicant database.


  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned


Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.


  • All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA).


  • Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.


  • Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.


  • A one-year supervisory probationary period may be required.


  • Successful completion of applicable Military Health System (MHS) GENESIS Training is required to access the MHS GENESIS System within 30 days of onboarding and/or as required.


  • Occasional shift work (before 0600 or after 1800 hours) may be required.


  • Occasionally may be required to work Saturdays.


  • To qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.


  • Minimum of one (1) year post-graduate experience in direct patient care within the last three years or equivalent experience and training.
  • Must pass the pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal


Physician:

Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; the Association of American Medical Colleges; the Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must have provided education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.

Must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

Nurse Practitioner:

Master's or Doctoral Degree in Nurse Practitioner program, accredited by ANCC or ANPCP. Must be board certified in one of the following advanced practice nursing programs: Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Adult Nurse Practitioner (ANP), Adult-Gerontology NP or Acute Care NP.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
