Overview

The Work

The Scientist III-Env is responsible for executing well-defined experiments, contributing to studies of a complex nature, and successfully solving associated technical challenges independently. This role requires effective collaboration with team members involved in related aspects of scientific problems, as well as proficiency in adapting laboratory procedures and guidelines to meet customer-specific specifications and testing requirements.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect water samples from wells throughout SSC.
  • Performs professional assignments within a specific scientific discipline.
  • Apply scientific knowledge and methodology to experiments or studies designed to yield solutions to testing or development problems. Pursues investigations into new or promising scientific fields, to assess their applicability to existing programs or potential areas of company activities.
  • Develops, evaluates, and implements process plans and methods for techniques suitable for day-to-day use on a routine basis. These techniques may involve adaptation of classical techniques to new situations, or new approaches.
  • Performs assignments independently or with others under general guidance from higher-level scientists or management. Receives technical guidance on unusual or complex problems.
  • Participates in providing innovative approaches to technical problems, contributes to the overall increase in lab efficiency through adaptive thought and information exchanges.
  • Plans and conduct difficult and complex experiments either independently or in conjunction with other personnel.
  • Directs, guides and trains assigned personnel as required and advises supervisory personnel of their progress.
  • Reviews the results of tests in relation to the reliability, completeness, and accuracy of the test and methods employed. Submits dispositions relative to the results of this analysis.
  • Performs light repairs, maintenance, and preventive maintenance on complex equipment as necessary to keep in good stable working condition.
  • Participates in resolving technical problems and collaborates with colleagues in methods development and validation.
  • Analyzes routine and non-routine features of scientific tasks and formulates methodologies to resolve technical problems, to increase the efficiency of scientific support, and to enhance the work efforts in the laboratory.
  • Develops standard operating procedures and trains personnel as required.
  • Assist other departments when required.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Qualifications - Here's What You Need
  • Bachelor of Science degree is required.
  • 7 years of related laboratory experience.
  • Experience in developing, modifying and writing methods and procedures.
  • Must be able to pass a background check. May require additional background checks as required by projects and/or clients at any time during employment.

Minimum Skills:
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate in a clear, professional, and articulate manner.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with high-level attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast past environment with changing priorities; adaptable to change and a quick learner.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work well independently as well as on a multi-functional team.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately
  • Proficient in MS Office, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master of Science
  • 4 years of directly related experience working in an analytical laboratory
  • PhD in Science
  • Professional knowledge of chemical principles, theories, practices, and established methodology sufficient to perform chemical analyses on a wide variety of samples.
  • Skilled in operating and calibrating sophisticated analytical instrumentation to independently analyze samples

Reports to: Program Manager

Working Conditions
  • Professional environment, with the ability to work onsite.
  • May be exposed to dust, fumes, and or gases.
  • Exposure to varying outdoor environmental conditions, including heat, cold, humidity, wind, rain, snow, and other weather elements.
  • Ability to lift 75 pounds.
  • Must be physically and mentally able to perform duties extended periods of time.
  • Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed to meet the demands of this position.
  • Must be able to establish a productive and professional workspace.
  • May be asked to work a flexible schedule which may include holidays.
  • May be asked to travel for business or professional development purposes.
  • May be asked to work hours outside of normal business hours.
