General Function:
- Provides engineering support for the development, procurement, sustainment, and modification of aircraft flight systems, subsystems, components, and associated equipment.
- Applies systems engineering expertise across flight systems design, integration, manufacturing, quality, industrial engineering, airworthiness, and configuration/data management.
- Develops, maintains, and reviews critical flight systems documentation such as specifications, system requirements documents, and systems engineering plans.
- Translates system-level requirements into prime contractor artifacts including software development plans, sub-specifications, and technical procedures.
- Ensures consistent application of robust systems engineering processes throughout program development, production, and sustainment phases.
- Executes and supports USAF airworthiness requirements in accordance with AFPD 62-6, including standardized processes and issuance of flight authorizations.
- Provides subject-matter expertise in flight systems interfaces, Interface Control Documents, open system architectures, and associated hardware and software.
- Supports configuration management, data management, and risk management planning and execution across flight systems programs.
- Participates in environmental assessments, technical interchange meetings, interface control meetings, design reviews, audits, program management reviews, and other formal technical reviews.
- Produces and reviews technical evaluations, engineering analyses, studies, reports, and acquisition plans and strategies.
- Supports milestone preparation and evaluates OEM and subcontractor recommendations impacting operations and sustainment.
- Reviews and assesses change documentation such as Advanced Change Study Notices, Engineering Change Proposals, Configuration Change Proposals, FAA bulletins, and related materials.
- Provides safety engineering expertise, ensuring compliance with MIL-STD-882, FAA safety requirements, and development of safety risk packages.
- Identifies aircraft certification requirements and assists in obtaining and maintaining required certifications, including spectrum certification.
- Evaluates aircraft integration approaches using in-depth knowledge of aircraft structures, flight control systems, mechanical systems, and avionics to ensure airworthiness and performance compliance.
- Assesses Engineering and Manufacturing Development contractor designs to verify compliance with aircraft-related SRD and PWS/SOW requirements.
- Manages and evaluates Size, Weight, Power, Cooling, and Weight and Balance impacts resulting from aircraft modifications and mission equipment integration.
- Supports test planning, test execution, and review of test documentation, coordinating with integrated product teams to ensure subsystem adequacy.
- Provides expertise in aircraft structures and subsystems including environmental control, electrical power, hydraulics, pneumatics, auxiliary/emergency power, and aerial refueling systems.
- Ensures compliance with applicable military standards (e.g., MIL-STD-1530, MIL-STD-1798C), manages OSS&E processes, supports sustainment strategies, and identifies diminishing manufacturing source issues.
Qualifications:
Education/Certifications/Experience/Skills:
- MA/MS Degree with 10 years of directly related experience or BA/BS with 12 years of directly related experience or 15 years of directly related experience to this discipline.
- Must possess and maintain a government security clearance at the Secret level.
- Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft programs (including Excel, Word, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Visio, and Project).
- Must be able to perform all functional duties independently.
- Must be able to transport self to various facility sites, as required. If using own motor vehicle, must possess a valid driver's license and proof of insurance.
