MITRE is seeking highly motivated Operational Analysis Engineer to join a multidisciplinary team supporting mission-focused analysis for U.S. government sponsors. You will apply and expand your technical expertise in modeling and simulation, data analytics, and operations research to address complex mission and operational problems under the guidance of experienced analysts and engineers. As an operational analysis engineer, you will leverage an understanding of modeling simulation and analysis or other similar technical disciplines to support a variety of projects depending on sponsor needs. Responsibilities include:
- Support the development, implementation, and execution of modeling and simulation to represent operational environments, systems, and mission scenarios.
- Use programming languages and applications (e.g., Python, Java, or MATLAB) to help build, adapt, and run analytical models, tools, and simulations.
- Assist with data collection, cleaning, integration, and analysis of quantitative and qualitative data to evaluate system performance, mission outcomes, and operational risk.
- Apply statistical analysis and operations research methods to compare alternative courses of action and develop evidence-based recommendations.
- Create clear and insightful data visualizations and dashboards to communicate analytic results.
- Work independently and/or collaborate with a team of technical staff.
Basic Qualifications:
- Typically requires less than 1 year of related experience with a Bachelor degree; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
- Degree in relevant field (e.g., Systems Engineering, Operations Research, Mathematics, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Physics, Aerospace Engineering, Data Science/Analytics).
- Demonstrated proficiency in programming languages and applications such as Python, Java, C/C++, or MATLAB to including scripting for data analysis, modeling, or simulation.
- Familiarity with data and scientific computing libraries (e.g., pandas, NumPy, SciPy, matplotlib, Plotly, Jupyter) and/or MATLAB toolboxes.
- Experience with modeling and simulation (e.g., discrete-event simulation, Monte Carlo methods, agent-based modeling, queueing or stochastic models).
- Demonstrated ability to retrieve, manipulate, and work with data from files, databases, or APIs using queries, scripts, or other tools.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to break down complex problems, work through structured assignments, and contribute to team-based problem solving.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document methods and findings and to brief results.
- GPA must be listed for all degrees received within past 3 years.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret clearance with access to Secure Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) (Per the U.S. Government's eligibility requirements, you must be a U.S Citizen to be considered for a security clearance).
- This position requires a minimum of 4 days a week on-site.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters Degree or PhD.
- Familiarity with operational analysis tools like AFSIM or STK.
- Experience with modeling and simulation tools or frameworks.
- Experience with data analysis and data visualization tools or environments (e.g., R, SPSS, SAS, Tableau, Power BI).
- Experience or coursework applying data science, statistics, or operations research techniques to real-world or mission/operational problems (e.g., logistics, defense, transportation, healthcare, or emergency response scenarios).
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document methods and findings and to brief results to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Active DoD Secret clearance or higher.
