We are seeking a Senior Manager, Solutions Engineering and Internal Research and Development (IR&D) to lead technical solution design, architecture, innovation initiatives, and IR&Ds across Serco's Business Units (BUs) and leading solutioning for bid opportunities. This role will drive the development of scalable, secure, and mission-critical solutions that enable Serco to deliver exceptional value to our government customers. This role reports directly to the Director, Digital Transformation Center as part of the Advanced Technology Group. It is a remote position within the U.S. and requires approximately 10% travel.

As the Sr. Manager of Solution Engineering and IR&D, you will lead and mentor a team of Solution Engineers, ensuring alignment and providing guidance throughout the solution engineering process to support Serco's bid efforts for new and existing opportunities. You will own the development and maintenance of Serco's Solution Engineering Playbook, establishing best practices and standards for delivering technical solutions. In addition, you will identify and connect pockets of innovative digital solutions across the organization, leveraging them to strengthen proposals and drive consistency across bids. You will also own the development and oversight of the IR&D execution process, to include the ideation of new IR&Ds through the approval process, manage the overall budget, guide IR&D Principal Investigators, and ensure alignment of technical investments to support the BUs.

In this role, you will:
  • Lead and mentor a team of Solution Engineers, providing technical guidance and ensuring alignment with Serco's strategic objectives.
  • Partner with Business Development, Capture, and Proposal teams to design winning technical solutions that incorporate innovation, engineering rigor, and competitive differentiation.
  • Identify and integrate innovative digital capabilities across Serco's BUs to strengthen proposals and drive consistency in solutioning.
  • Oversee the end-to-end IR&D process, including ideation, prioritization, approval, execution, and budget management, ensuring alignment with business priorities and measurable return on investment.
  • Transition successful IR&D outcomes into operational programs and proposals, accelerating adoption of new technologies.
  • Monitor emerging technologies and industry trends to inform Serco's technology roadmap and innovation strategy

To be successful in this role, you will have the following:
  • US Citizenship
  • Ability to obtain a Secret security clearance
  • Bachelor of Science degree in technical-related discipline; Master's degree preferred
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in engineering, solutions architecture, or digital transformation roles, including minimum 5 years in leadership positions
  • Proven ability to lead technical teams, foster collaboration, and deliver complex solutions in mission-critical environments
  • Strong background in digital transformation, modernization strategies, and technology roadmaps
  • Understanding of cloud architectures, DevSecOps, automation, AI/ML, and modern engineering practices
  • Demonstrated success managing IR&D or R&D portfolios, developing intellectual property, and creating reusable technical assets
  • Ability to translate business objectives into technology roadmaps and actionable solutions
  • Familiarity with Agile methodology and Lean principles
  • Must have excellent communications skills (verbal and written) and highly effective interpersonal skills to engage confidently with technical leaders, business executives, customers, partners, and subcontractors
  • Ability to travel up to 10%

Salary range: The range for this position can be found at the top of this posting. This range is provided as a general guideline and represents a good faith estimate across all experience levels. For roles available in multiple states, the range may vary to reflect differences in local labor markets.
