Duties
Help

  • Plans, organizes, and oversees the full complement of activities within the Group Commander's Support Staff (CSS), ensuring that group products and processes within the CSS comply with identified timelines, legal and regulatory requirements and meet customer needs.
  • Manages and oversees the security program for the Operations Group. Group lead and subject matter expert for all aspects of information and physical security.
  • Represents the Group with a variety of installation and functional area organizations. Establishes, develops, and maintains effective working relationships with internal and external customers and offices, within the Wing and external to the Wing.
  • Prepares and delivers presentations such as briefings, training sessions, and consultations with serviced Commander(s), other staff agencies and functional areas to secure cooperation, resolve controversial matters and convey information.
  • Participates in special studies and projects relating to planning, coordinating, and analyzing the effectiveness/efficiency of the Group CSS in meeting Air Force Administration program goals.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management positions.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes (1) Working with military administrative and personnel policies, procedures, rules, guidelines, instructions, etc., to understand respective programs and discuss findings with functional managers. (2) Working with mission and unit management principles, techniques of analysis and evaluation to identify and recommend solutions to problems in organizational structure, staffing, administrative procedures, work processes or workload distribution. (3) Understanding of the civilian personnel guidelines and master labor agreement in sufficient detail to collaborate with specialists from the servicing Civilian Personnel Office (CPO) and/or officials from employee bargaining unit is required to address staffing problems. (4) Skill in applying facts, investigative techniques to analyze data/products to determine adequacy of programs and/or deficiencies thereof.

EDUCATION: Successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B or J.D. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position. NOTE: You must submit copies of your college transcripts.

OR
COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Less than the full amount of specialized experience described in the job opportunity announcement; however, and have at least one year of progressively higher level graduate education, but have not obtained a master's or equivalent graduate degree. Therefore, have a combination of experience and education. NOTE: You must submit a copy of transcripts.

FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
  • In-depth knowledge of administrative and military personnel policies, procedures, wing/group/squadron missions, resource planning, training methods and programs, rules, guidelines and instructions.
  • In-depth knowledge of the government automated systems, personal computers, printers, copier, scanner, hardware and software.
  • Knowledge and skill in implementing safety, security, personnel management and EEO regulations, practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge and skill in applying goals and objectives to assist in the management and training of Commander's Support Staff personnel.
  • Skilled in implementing analytical and continuous process improvement techniques to measure the effectiveness, efficiency and productivity of a diverse staff personnel.
  • Ability to integrate civilian and military personnel to successfully accomplish the organization's mission through management principles within appliable personnel systems. Ability to analyze data/products and produce courses of action to address problems and/or trends. Ability to plan, organize and direct the functions and staff of an organization and to communicate effectively with diverse groups of individuals, both orally and in writing.


  • PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

    VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
