Overview
LMI is seeking a Distributed Systems Engineer, TACLAN Integration to engineer the interconnect between fielded TACLAN systems and IL4/IL6 hosted environments that deliver modern data, AI, and mission applications to tactical users. This position requires an active Secret clearance.
A successful Distributed Systems Engineer understands that TACLAN is the tactical system teams deploy, train, and fight on, while IL4 and IL6 are the service backplanes where modern capability lives. This role designs how TACLAN kits become forward nodes of enterprise services without changing how teams deploy or operate in the field.
LMI is a new breed of digital solutions provider dedicated to accelerating government impact with innovation and speed. Investing in technology and prototypes ahead of need, LMI brings commercial-grade platforms and mission-ready AI to federal agencies at commercial speed.
Leveraging our mission-ready technology and solutions, proven expertise in federal deployment, and strategic relationships, we enhance outcomes for the government, efficiently and effectively. With a focus on agility and collaboration, LMI serves the defense, space, healthcare, and energy sectors-helping agencies navigate complexity and outpace change. Headquartered in Tysons, Virginia, LMI is committed to delivering impactful results that strengthen missions and drive lasting value.
Responsibilities
Solution Design:
• Engineer routing and enclave extension between TACLAN NIPR/SIPR VLANs and IL4/IL6 environments
• Design gateway patterns so TACLAN nodes logically join cloud hosted enclaves
• Utilize standardized IP schema, VLAN design, and routing templates that align with existing TACLAN baselines
• Validate performance over SATCOM and constrained RF transport
Testing and Quality Assurance:
• Test designs in realistic field exercises with tactical communicators and operators
• Ensure network designs remain supportable, repeatable, and survivable in tactical conditions
Maintenance and Support:
• Work with network, cybersecurity, and platform teams to ensure designs remain supportable and accreditable
• Support field units during integration and troubleshooting of TACLAN to IL4/IL6 connectivity
Documentation:
• Produce field ready setup guides, routing templates, and operator TTPs
• Create technical reference architectures and implementation guides
Qualifications
Qualifications:
• Deep familiarity with SOCOM TACLAN architecture and field employment
• Experience with tactical routing, switching, and VLAN design
• Understanding of Type 1 boundaries and how tactical networks extend SIPR and NIPR
• Experience designing networks over SATCOM and RF backhaul
• Practical knowledge of IL4 and IL6 enclave concepts and Impact Level requirements from Defense Information Systems Agency
• Experience working with operators during field exercises or deployments
• DoD 8570 / 8140 IAT Level II compliant certification
• Experience designing, implementing, and troubleshooting IPsec architectures
• Networking certification at the Cisco Certified Network Professional level (or vendor equivalent) demonstrating competency in routing, switching, and network fundamentals
• Must possess an active Secret clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with cloud hosted IL4/IL6 hosted environments
• Familiarity with distributed automated mission application delivery to TACLAN kits
• Understanding of DevSecOps pipelines and how services are delivered to enclaves
• Experience writing technical reference architectures and implementation guides
• Background in SOCOM, SOF support, or tactical communications units
