Position Summary:
The Senior Systems Administrator is responsible for ensuring the stable, secure, and efficient operation of enterprise computer systems, databases, applications, and network connections supporting mission-critical operations. This role provides senior-level technical leadership across system administration, database support, performance optimization, security compliance, and continuity planning. The Systems Administrator Senior plans, installs, configures, maintains, and optimizes server, database, and networked environments while directing the day-to-day activities of other system administrators and supporting both local and geographically distributed systems.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Ensure the stable operation of enterprise software systems, servers, databases, and network connections.
Plan, develop, install, configure, maintain, and optimize operating systems, applications, and communication links.
Organize and direct the configuration and operation of information management systems.
Provide local and remote system administration support for operational systems deployed across multiple locations.
Perform general maintenance, upgrades, and new installations of servers and applications.
Analyze and resolve end-user software, system, and connectivity issues.
Conduct system capacity, performance, and utilization analysis and recommend configuration changes and upgrades.
Increase administrative efficiency through automation, scripting, and development of standard operating procedures.
Develop system administration documentation, procedures, and training materials.
Provide system administrator and end-user training as required.
Direct and coordinate the work of other system administrators to ensure effective daily operations.
Database and Data Management Support
Provide administration and operational support for application and web-based databases in client/server and cloud environments.
Design, create, maintain, and support databases in support of application sustainment requirements.
Advise users and stakeholders on database access, availability, and performance.
Conduct quality control, auditing, and validation to ensure accurate and appropriate use of data.
Maintain database dictionaries, file structures, storage design, and metadata.
Perform database programming and query development using SQL and related technologies.
Run queries, develop reports, and support data analysis and cleansing activities.
Support SQL Server Reporting Services configuration and troubleshooting as required.
Assist customers with data management concerns including data integrity, availability, and reporting.
Security, Compliance, and Vulnerability Management
Perform vulnerability management activities across systems, applications, and databases.
Research, analyze, and assess applicability and impact of CERTs, CTOs, IA directives, mandates, and regulations.
Install and implement security updates, patches, STIGs, and other compliance requirements.
Prepare Plans of Action and Milestones (POAMs) and implement mitigation strategies as required.
Support Security Readiness Reviews (SRRs) and audit activities.
Ensure systems comply with government security, audit, and configuration management requirements.
Database and Infrastructure Lifecycle Support
Research and recommend DBMS, software, and hardware solutions for government approval.
Develop implementation plans and schedules for system and database changes.
Coordinate installations and upgrades through configuration management and enterprise change control processes.
Obtain required approvals from Government Points of Contact and PMO stakeholders.
Perform database backup, recovery, and restoration activities.
Support Continuity of Operations (COOP) planning, documentation, exercises, and execution.
Architecture, Networking, and Integration
Apply advanced technical knowledge of application networking including load balancing, fault tolerance, and high availability.
Support system integration across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments including Azure GovCloud and other authorized cloud platforms.
Assist other system administrators and infrastructure teams as required.
Provide recommendations on technology direction to align with business and mission objectives.
Project and Program Support
Provide project management support for system, database, and infrastructure-related efforts.
Prepare and maintain documentation including implementation plans, schedules, WBS artifacts, status reports, and progress briefings.
Coordinate activities with government personnel, PMO, and technical stakeholders.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in an information technology–related field.
Ten (10) years of relevant experience, including progressive, hands-on experience installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting complex software and system environments.
Demonstrated experience across multiple information processing disciplines involving diverse hardware and software solutions. Experience supporting large-scale enterprise systems in production environments.
Must possess an IT-II Critical Sensitive security clearance or Tier 3 (T3) Secret clearance
In accordance with pay transparency law, the expected salary range for this position is 125,000-145,000 annually. The actual compensation offered will be determined based on factors such as the candidate’s experience, qualifications, skills, and location. We are committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. This posted range reflects our good faith estimate of the compensation we reasonably expect to offer for this role at the time of posting.
