Primary Function
Reports to the Maintenance Manager and is aligned with the Production Supervisor to provide detailed maintenance planning, production coordination, and execution tracking for Aircraft Operations Support (AOS) activities at NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center (AFRC). Serves as a key integrator between Maintenance Operations Control, Production Supervision, Quality Assurance, and NASA Crew Chiefs to ensure maintenance activities are properly planned, sequenced, documented, and executed in alignment with flight schedules, aircraft readiness priorities, and AFRC procedures. This position emphasizes schedule discipline, documentation accuracy, and production flow, rather than direct personnel supervision.

Primary Function

Serves as a key integrator between Maintenance Operations Control, Production Supervision, Quality Assurance, and NASA Crew Chiefs to ensure maintenance activities are properly planned, sequenced, documented, and executed in alignment with flight schedules, aircraft readiness priorities, and AFRC procedures. This position emphasizes schedule discipline, documentation accuracy, and production flow, rather than direct personnel supervision.
Essential Duties
Maintenance Planning & Production Coordination
- Develop, maintain, and update maintenance plans, work packages, and production schedules for scheduled and unscheduled maintenance events.
- Coordinate daily and weekly maintenance activities with the Production Supervisor, Maintenance Manager, and Maintenance Operations Control.
- Support long-range maintenance planning by tracking scheduled inspections, phase events, modification activities, and anticipated downtime.
- Identify production constraints (manpower, material, tooling, engineering disposition) and elevate risks early to leadership for resolution.
- Assist in sequencing maintenance tasks to optimize aircraft availability and minimize schedule disruptions.
Maintenance Execution Support
- Monitor work-in-progress across assigned aircraft and maintenance actions to ensure alignment with approved schedules and priorities.
- Track open discrepancies, deferred maintenance items, and MICAP conditions; support mitigation planning and recovery actions.
- Coordinate with Supply Chain, Parts Expediter, and Tool Control to ensure material readiness supports planned maintenance events.
- Interface with NASA Crew Chiefs to ensure aircraft-specific requirements and configuration considerations are incorporated into execution planning.
Documentation & Systems Management
- Ensure maintenance actions are properly documented in NAMIS or other NASA-designated maintenance information systems.
- Validate completeness and accuracy of work records, task closeouts, and maintenance status entries prior to aircraft release.
- Maintain production metrics and readiness data to support daily aircraft status meetings and leadership reporting.
- Assist in preparation of reports and data requested by the Program Manager, Site Lead, or NASA Technical Monitors.
Quality, Safety & Compliance Support
- Coordinate closely with the Quality Assurance Manager to ensure inspection requirements, hold points, and acceptance criteria are met.
- Support compliance with FAA, NASA, AFRC, and AS9100D requirements related to maintenance execution and documentation.
- Promote adherence to safety procedures, FOD prevention, tool control, and SHEMP requirements during maintenance planning and execution.
Continuous Improvement & Readiness Support
- Analyze production flow, schedule adherence, and maintenance performance trends to identify improvement opportunities.
- Support implementation of process improvements that enhance maintenance predictability, documentation quality, and aircraft readiness.
- Assist leadership in developing recovery plans for delayed maintenance events or emergent operational demands.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong understanding of aircraft maintenance operations, production control, and maintenance planning principles.
- Familiarity with NASA AFRC maintenance processes, joint contractor/Government execution models, and Crew Chief integration.
- Working knowledge of FAA maintenance standards, NASA directives, and AS9100D quality system requirements.
- Proficiency with NAMIS or comparable aircraft maintenance information systems.
- Ability to analyze schedules, identify production risks, and communicate impacts clearly to leadership.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills to coordinate across multiple functional teams.
- Ability to operate effectively in a high-tempo, mission-driven flight operations environment.
Required Qualifications
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate's degree in Aviation Maintenance Technology, Engineering Technology, or related field preferred.Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of aircraft maintenance experience within the last 10 years, supporting fixed-wing aircraft in an operational, flight-test, or research environment.
- At least 2 years of experience in maintenance planning, production control, or maintenance operations coordination, supporting scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating maintenance execution across multiple functional areas (maintenance, QA, supply, engineering, and operations).
Technical & Systems Experience:
- Experience using aircraft maintenance management systems such as NAMIS, IMDS, Maximo, or equivalent Government or commercial systems.
- Working knowledge of aircraft maintenance documentation, work packages, discrepancy tracking, and maintenance status reporting.
Regulatory & Compliance Knowledge:
- Working knowledge of FAA maintenance standards, applicable 14 CFR requirements, and/or military or NASA maintenance procedures.
- Familiarity with NASA flight operations, test aircraft environments, or Government-owned aircraft maintenance programs preferred.
Other Requirements:
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain required NASA badging and system access.
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including off-shifts or extended hours, in support of flight operations and maintenance demands.
- Must meet all physical and environmental requirements necessary to work in hangar, ramp, and aircraft maintenance environments.
